Saw your post, and could possibly squeeze it in, however, I'm needing full cableset and a brake service before the new bike goes anywhere...

Added to the fact that SWMBO may well have plans for me, I think it may be unlikely.

However - over xmas, yes - my new bike will be well suited to a Cymcarn climb

OK, maybe I service my bike first and we do something between christmas and new year (although I have family commitments until the morning of the 28th).

I need a new bottom bracket (the Royce one has finally died after 10 years or so) and cranks I think. What's the best option at the moment? (I'm a bit out of touch paperbag)

Christ amighty!!!!

Get some XT hollowtech II cranks, dead light but very stiff, nice looking, and comes with a fantastic BB system that lasts for yonks.

Or get XTR if you can afford the extra £80 or so - they simply are yummy lick I have them...

XT set is £99 from Chain Reaction Cycles although I think the current setup is going to be a bugger to get out I will be giving it to a local shop to do.

Probably best - you need all new tools for the hollowtech II stuff.

I'm very happy with my LX htII setup (apart from badge snobbery, of course!)

BTW bike now all built and done, although not quite happy with the front brake, so need to bleed it again...

Mind you, I don't think I'll be any state to ride on Sunday silly

Very nice! I just need this censored chest infection to shift so I can get back on my bike.

That photo looks really photoshopped, but it isn't, honest! Ewen is just next to Kemble. Here's another:
