Can anyone recommend a good Chinky in Bristol. Only proviso is that it has to be near the ice rink.

Cheers

Used to be a good one on Baldwin street but I think that's gone now.
Another option is Cathay Rendezvous on King Street (~5 minutes walk)

I don't know Bristol but I generally wander around and look for the restaurant with Chinese people actually eating there, normally means it a good place to eat.

Dynasty in St Thomas Street is good but a bit pricey.

New World Karaoke? I'm not sure it would be on my list of good Chinese Restaurants!!laugh

Having said that I've only been in there twice, was pissed on both occasions and on the second occasion my work colleague decided she had the hots for some guys in there and had to be removed before their WAG's removed her!

I'd go for the Cathay Rendevous, I hear Dynasty is good and the new place on Baldwin Street whose name I can't remember was good when I went there.

Being someone who lived in the Far East for over 18 years, I think Dynasty is the most authentic and consistent of all the Chinese restaurants in Bristol. Cathay Rendezvous is especially well known because the Queen visited it when she was in Bristol sometime back. Both are very good, but I feel Dynasty just pips Cathay R into second place. I have a Chinese meal with colleagues at least once a week and Dynasty has always delivered lick; I personally can't say the same for Cathay R shoot.

At the other end of the scale Fungs Chinese cafe on the Gloucester Road is great value and does what is for my money the best hot and sour soup around. It's a bit rough and ready but the food (usual Chinese restaurant takeaway fare) is not bad at all. And it's cheap.

Dynasty....I had the terrible service there, thought it was over priced for what I got, waited over 1 hour for starters and the restaurant was cold. Ok might have been an off night but I will NEVER go back. We ended up complaining, just shocking.

I feel bad typing the above but spending about £50 and regretting it annoys me.
