You and Silverback Mike need to get chatting.

Actually, KingRSeven too, seeing as he's just brought a Mondeo TD Estate for £250

Must be something in the air round 'ere...

If the engine code on that starts ABS then you've got yourself a bargain mate!

I hope the electrics on that are in better state than mine! Same age, same model, 145k and it is starting to fall to pieces even though it gets serviced every 6k... Broken down 3 times in the last 6 months too.

Good luck!

I love cars in this sort of bracket - at the moment I have a real thing for old Range Rovers. Sadly a high annual mileage rules them out as everyday cars but I used to love my old SAAB 900 and my brother's equally antiquated Audi 80 - brilliant cars bought for peanuts.

The best buys I've ever seen were by 'Millard' who posts on here occasionally. Back in the late 90s when we'd just started driving he bought a 17 year old (x plate) Golf Mk 1 for £125. 2 years later he got £250 for it + 500 which he got for the plate which had some vague 555/Subaru connection. He then surpassed himself by buying amn orange 1974 BMW 1602 (which had been standing for 2 years and had moss growing on it) for £25 and a bottle of scotch. he got it home, put some new pads on it, changed the oil and stuck it straight through an MOT which it passed first time. 3 years later he sold it on for about £2,000 having done little to it other than put some 70s 3 series alloys on it and a pair of new front wings. Is it still out there?

Not exactly, it is a 1.8 8v but a different engine. 90bhp and a damn sight quicker than it should be. had a vento with that engine it was a good time.

If its Carb'd (which I doubt) then I can vouch for that too - the Black Golf I used to have seemed to be a bit sharpish...

Yes, I have noticed the suprising poke. Definitely quicker than 90bhp should be!

However, I was hoping you were going to tell us an easy way to get it the power of the 1.8 GTi engine! Shame!

Cool! I think this might have to go on my to-do list. Cos whilst the engine is pretty good standard I really don't like the way it's flat as a fart above 5000 rpm.
