Cameras on M5..!??
Discussion
Headed down to Taunton from junction 14 the other day - what are those cameras that have sprung up around the Weston Super Mare junction (give or take 1 or 2 junctions), in the central reservation. At least 5 of them, smaller than gatsos, but I didn't see any lines painted on the road. About every 500 metres at one point? I can't remember if they were painted yellow either - they had plastic bags over them so obviously aren't in use yet.
Obviously going to make a huge difference to the poor driving standards I witnessed, especially on Sunday night..

They are between Junctions 19 & 20 Portishead/Gordano and Clevedon (both directions), and apparently went live yesterday. The local media describe them as digital with download via satellite.
In case any one was thinking about the bypass route through the Gordano valley, a Gatso has sprung up on the Clevedon side of Weston in Gordano.

They haven't started the roadworks yet and still have plastic bags over them at the moment. There's no speed limit yet either (not this morning anyway).
However, looks like they'll start any day now and once they do I'm sure they'll help fund the roadworks.....

Got to say lads, if they pick up on poor driving standards, rather than the good drivers who just happen to exceed the limit by a bit, then I am all for it. Speeding cars I can live with, poor driving standards, thats a different kettle of fish.
Do recall a prog some years ago, when plod pulled up a car, made him watch the video of him driving for past 10 mins, told him "Sir, your driving is impeccable, but you are just going too fast, so slow down", now that is what I call good police/driver relations.

Oh OK they're for the roadworks.. well that I can live with, though i don't see why they need so many? Still, might be fun seeing how much speed you can build up in between each one! Or are they the time-over-distance type?

P.S. When will we stop being happily shafted?
They picked up on the Bath/M4 road works which recently finished. The West-bound Gatso "earned" 100's of thousands in revenue - sorry can't remeber the exact figure. All it did was slow everyone down for 100 yards then they all returned to 60/70 thro' the road works.

Well the only time I've ever been flashed was on the M4 roadworks around Chippenham in the summer. I do hope they are sensible this time. I was driving for what seemed like 2-3 mile past the end of the contra-flow and speeded up.
A second gatso got me doing 71mph and the limit was 40! There were no cones, no other cars no nothing.
I got the form to sign but heard nothing since June. I was told they can take up to 3yrs to prosecute. It's a joke.
