A very morose looking accident, all taped off in a way that screams 'fatal paedestrian accident' and some very upset looking people being sternly marched about by some unhappy Traf' Pol' has blocked the entire inwards route into Bristol on the Portbury Way.

I would advise to avoid any routes in and around the M5 junction into Avonmouth as it's snarled everything up.

I hope that Silverback Mike may be able to confirm that it was not a fatal accident as that area usually has loads of kids running around at that time in the morning waiting to get the school buses.

I'm on lates today Neil, so will find out what happened.

I may not be able to release full details, it all depends on investigations on going, but normally road closures are for fatals.

Hope he/she pulls through. Makes my 10 minutes late to work a little less important

Cheers Mike, I fully understand - from my little (admittedly media based) knowledge, a road accident taped off as a crime investigation scene usually means something serious.

I've seen a car backwards through a wall coming off the roundabout (although god knows how) and that didn't necesstate closing of the road - so lets all hope that the child is ok.

I do have to add, however, that EVERY morning, near enough, I see kids legging it across the road - and yet a proper set of traffic lights is available in two places - I've had to brake a couple of times as a result - kids are a bit silly sometimes - especially on this horrible road.

That said, for all faults in the world, none of us I'm sure would want this.

Neil

Edited to add: just realised I was calling the road by the wrong name - doh - need my coffee!!!

Fingers crossed for the child in question.

Perhaps a return of the "lollipop lady" is overdue?

Was listening to this develop on GWR this morning. My job involves being out and about in Bristol, and the round I had today normally takes me up the portway near the finish. I found another way today.

I hope that the girl in question pulls through, but I have to say that this kind of accident doesn't suprise me anymore.

Being out and about every day, I see any number of idiots dicing with death to cross the road. And kids are the worst. They just don't seem to realise that the road is a dangerous place. Always has been, always will be, no matter how many speed cameras and speed bumps they put in.

Now it may be that she was just hit by an unobservant driver, but I wouldn't be surprised if she stepped out in the road right in front of the car.

They need to start drumming the green cross code into kids again, and maybe a lot of accidents like this can be averted.

Sorry folks, unable to check. Buggers have sent me home, apparently I am going to infect everyone with 'manflu' if I stay.
