My missus has a load of mates coming down this weekend, and we've said that we'll wander over to the fiesta seeing as we'll not be able to flippin' drive anywhere - I'll come across and say hello.

Neil, bear in mind that the bridge will be closed to all traffic including pedestrians at the w/e, so you'll have to drive to go to the Fiesta. If the wind is right (like it was last year) all the balloons will come straight over your roof anyway!

Thursday night's "Night Glow" is nice to see/hear but does get very crowded these days.

The massed launches on the weekend are great - best bet is the early ones though (so be there by 6am!) as the evening launches are similarly crowded.

Wot he said. The wife wants to go to the night glow, but last year it was carnage and the balloon pilots (with apologies to obiwonkeyblokey) didn't have any rhythm

I think I read that they have changed it this year, hang on clickety click see here: www.bbc.co.uk/bristol/content/articles/2005/07/27/fiesta05parking_feature.shtml

"Organisers of the event have also worked with the Suspension Bridge trustees to limit the times the route is shut.

Last year, the bridge was closed because of safety worries for most of the weekend but this year it will be closed for the busy Night Glow days only.

The revised closure times are:

0930 on Thursday 11th August until 0500 on Friday 12th
1200 on Saturday 13th until 0500 on Sunday 14th"{/small]

We were only going to wander over in the day anyway - we have much beer drinking to be doing in the evening...

sheepishly says Having now read the above timetable, I realise that unless incredibly sad and wish to run around like a loon in sandals in the morning, the bridge will be shut in the afternoon

Oh well, beer in the garden/downs it is then...

If the wind is such that the balloons head over central Bristol, get yerself down to Royal York Crescent for a good view.

Alternatively, the terrace of the Avon Gorge Hotel gets a reasonable view with the added advantage of beer on tap! Will get very crowded, though, if the weather's nice.

Went over on Thursday - getting the bus over to the park and ride carpark was a good idea - 15 mins walk to the arena from there.

No shapes take off - boo, but the fireworks were worth the wait!

Then we were very lucky and picked up a cab by Ashton Gate and was home in about 30-40 mins after the show ended.

Will be going again tomorrow as we have some friends coming over.

Beer is an OK price too - 2.80/pint, considering the event.

Saw your fishtank balloon - looks very shiney and new!
