1984 lincoln town car
Discussion
Hi,can anyone recommend a good classic car garage near torquay in devon.I've got a 1984 Lincoln town car with an annoying problem,i've had the car for 10 years and it has always been very reliable, but now when you start the engine it always runs nice and you drive off, within a few miles the engine starts to run very badly and misfires and gradually dies.when you open the hood you can sense excessive heat coming from the the engine. After a few minutes you can restart and drive perfectly. The car does not have a temperature gauge,it has a red engine warning light, but it does not come on. I plan to change the radiator (it's on it's way across the pond) and the thermostat,i've also changed the fuel filter. The HT leads, spark plugs and the distributer cap and rotor arm have also been changed.any ideas?
regards,mick.

I believe that engine was used in a few UK cars, perhaps find out which ones and find a garage which specialises in those? MG/Rover/Aston Martin I think used it.
Did they? I’d be surprised. I can’t think of any MG, Rover or Aston Martin that used it in factory specification Jimmy Recard said:

If memory serves me correctly it’s the Ford small block Windsor V8 302. Can’t think of any U.K. car that used it, maybe an early TVR or maybe Marcos? Certainly nothing mainstream. The Ozzies used it in the falcons / Fairlanes though I think.

Sounds right to me. There may well be some low volume stuff using it, but not big brands like MG/Rover/Aston Martin. MG and Rover would be Rover V8s and Aston Martin had its own V8 too OP, find an American car garage and they’ll suss, the Windsor was used in many cars and trucks back in the day so they should have seen a few.
