The Sony car head unit in my car dates to original year of manufacture, 1994. It is a radio/cassette unit that also controls the CD changer in the boot. I probably last tried to use it 20 odd years ago and just now discovered it no longer functions ( checked fuses, all OK ).

I am thinking I should replace it for a more modern unit but no nothing about such things!

I only have space for a single DIN unit , obviously not needing cassette functionality but would still like to control CD changer. Needs to have Bluetooth functionality and some form of sat nav capabilty would be nice. Never listen to music and only traffic reports on radio so downloading music etc is of no importance.

Can anyone offer advice and/or point me in the direction of someone who can help?

Many thanks.

David. Last week I had a Pioneer Head Unit fitted in my Porsche 996. i brought it from InCarTec from 2 Leigham Units Silverton Road Matford Park Exeter EX2 8HY.

website is www.incartec.co.uk

The price of the head unit was the best I could find on line and the fitting was superb given that I was trusting them to drill (tiny) holes in my Porsche dashboard. Fitment cost was £50 per hour and it took 3 hours but that included a microphone, USB port (concealed) and DAB aerial.

I was able to discuss where I wanted it all and what head unit I wanted as they stock all the major brands. I know its a way from Somerset but I travelled down from North Devon as I wanted a good job done and I would recommend the guys there. Helpful advice, Plenty of wiring looms and dashboard parts too.

Steve, many thanks for your recommendation. I had seen them come up on a Google search but naturally from that you really have no idea what they will be like so first hand experience is invaluable so I will now follow up.
Out of interest what was the number of the head unit you had installed?
Cheers, David

David, sorry about my slow reply.

I had the SPH 130DAB by Pioneer. It has Apple Play and looks not too flashy in the dash of my 20 year old car.

The only negative is that it has a mammoth user manual that comes on a CD. Not much good if all your IT is made by Apple.

I spent an evening in the garage with my IPad and the PDF file up to get it all sorted.

I am pleased with the unit and the fitting.

Thanks for your response Steve. I did contact incartech, who proposed a flip out unit but it was not feasible for my car.
I have subsequently decided to replace my old unit with something similar, secondhand ( figures crossed! ) and get Bluetooth through an external device such as bury or parrot. I’ll pick up google maps sat nav via my iPhone hopefully thru the car’s speakers. Attempting a diy approach so it could take a while as I have to heavily research at each stage!
Anyway glad you are happy with your outcome and thanks again, cheers, David.
