Hi guys, it's time for some charity work..
I have been approached by a couple friends who would like me to take there children to there Prom which I have aggred to as we have a few cars to use, but I was thinking how about a large group from here and we ask for donations from the parents ie £40 from Mullion to Falmouth 1st run then get another spot more local to venue and do a 2nd or even 3rd trip where we charge £15 a trip.
All money will go towards a charity not a large charity something like a child has become so ill a few quid would help them out or some other thing to be discussed please please try and help out

Nice idea but charging money for this takes you into a different area insurance wise (even if the money goes to charity)

I've done many prom runs in the Ferrari but I never charge for this reason.

Yup, if you are charging then you are uninsured unless you are covered for 'hire and reward' and you won't be. It'll be specifically excluded. You're also into Private Hire regs and licensing.

However, if you are offered a donation for fuel that you decide to let it be known will be donated to Xxx Charity...that's ok.

When i researched it, charging for charity was ok insurance wise. The reward doesn't go to the driver

I did a prom run a couple of years ago. I'm still finding bits of glitter in the car laugh

I'd still check with your insurer first. You know they will take any evasive action they can to avoid a payout.

Strangely (or not) hehe when I insured my Ranger this week one of the specific prohibitions was shuttling children for money. (I'd never even been asked about that before).

...I don't know whether they just meant in the load carrying section biggrin

Of course, but it’s wrong to assume you won’t be covered. I called my insurer, they said it was fine.

It's not wrong to assume you are not insured. You are transporting passengers for hire and reward. Even if they are not paying you.

It's my job, I do know what I'm talking about.

If we can raise cash for charity then even better
Any idea what date and times we are talking about?

Evening guys great response.
Worded incorrectly,OK you can ask for donations no problem but its not hire or reward by doing this.
Love the idea you were asked to Ferry children put them in the boot..
Ok the date is the 27th June.
But not organised anything as of yet just seeing if any guys here would like to.
Main thing for me is young people need inspiration and I feel showing our lovely cars of on and evening like this will be a great way to show others that faster type cars are a good thing rather than negative.
Keep the thoughts coming. Will start a thread to put names down.

I took my little half brother and one of the young lads from shooting to their respective proms last year. Was excellent fun and great to get the next generation a bit enthused about fun cars; so if I’m not busy doing family stuff with our new addition you can count me and an Evora in.

A few years ago I did a prom trip in my car for a friend’s son.
Turning up at the country house I was greeted by VOSA (or whatever they were called then). They were checking the cars and looking into the financial nature of the trips.

I still do the odd prom trip but only for family or friends and I never mention money, not even donations.

I have done 4 prom trips in the Evora. For two of them I had 2 passengers, smallest in the back.
