Looking at commuting to Hammersmith 3+ days a week. Had considered biking up the M4 but PCP mileage, maintenance, tyres, and general lack of will to live will inevitably kick in. No parking nearby to take the car, and the paddington train is just shy of £10k a year!

Any hacks to get round this? I used to drive to Osterley and get a cheap tube in to other areas of London, for example.

How about Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush? Only £6 a day.

The train from Hungerford is much cheaper.

Hungerford to Paddington is significantly cheaper but you're restricted to 1 or 2 trains and hour as opposed to 4 or 5 an hour from Swindon.

Parking at Hungerford is also cheaper, it's £8.20ish a day at Swindon.

You need to check your return trains carefully as most require a change at Newbury.

Or Reading.

But at commuter times of day there are plenty of direct trains to choose from, some fast, some slow. We're pretty much equidistant from Hungerford and Swindon and my wife used to commute to Hammersmith from Hungerford every day. It's my station of choice on the rare days I have to train up to town, unless I know I'm going to be very late back as the last train is much earlier.

Or you could go from Bedwyn where parking is free but even fewer direct trains smile

Honestly take a bike into London so much cheaper and easier.

I did Newbury to London on a zx7r that cost me around £1700 and it cost me £15 of fuel per day (140 miles)

Took me on average 1hr 15, at 100 mph on the m4..... not now with the average zones....
