Any PHers in South Somerset or East Devon?
Discussion
I live in Wellington, not far away. Nice part of the world, with some great roads to drive on.
The M5 can be hell on earth during the summer, but we have some lovely towns on both the North and South coasts of Somerset/Devon. I'm particularly fond of Sidmouth. Lyme Regis is nice too, but hugely overcrowded at times.
Also, there's the West Somerset Steam Railway. It runs from Bishop's Lydeard to Minehead. An all-day ticket costs £18 or thereabouts.
There's also the Haynes Motor Museum to be visited, though chances are if you're a PH regular you'll have been there before.

I grew up in East Devon and went to school in Somerset, so I know my way around fairly well already. That said, it's a bit different coming back as a grown up.
I think our first port of call is the Fleet Air Arm Museum. My two-year old is obsessed with planes, but he's never actually seen one on the ground, so it's a bit like that Father Ted sketch with the cows: I'm not sure he realises that they're big and far away. Haynes Motor Museum is also on the list (last time I was there I was 19, doing a car club sprint on the little test track out the back!)

I'm in Taunton but we spend a lot of time in East Devon - I grew up in Worcestershire so part of the novelty for me is the ability to strike out to Sidmouth, Lyme, Exmouth etc. Still hasn't worn off after 6+ years!
Best of luck with the move.
Thanks. Noticed you're a mountain biker - might have to have a chat about trails! Used to be a very keen MTBer and I've vowed to get back into it. Spent this morning packing my bike very, very carefully for its trip in the removal lorry tomorrow. Best of luck with the move.
Hi OP....
Originally from a small village near Yeovil but now living east of Bristol. Moved up here at age 31 and only come back for the football these days (altough get to T20 cricket at Taunton most years!).
Take your lad up to Bristol Airport if he likes planes. My twins used to watch Airport on the TV then went to Bristol to watch then take off and lad. Google Maps - Goblin Combe Lane is the best place to view them from, and it's free. If you get onto the airport's website, you can work out from the arrivals & departures boards when would be a good time to visit.
Welcome to Somerset too.

Cheers gents.
A couple of random car-related questions: Does anyone know of an independent Alfa garage around South West Somerset? (I found a reference to one in Ilminster on an old thread, but I think that might be outdated information...)
Also, I quite fancy having a go at some club-level motorsport. Something low-cost and informal like auto solos. Can anyone recommend any motor clubs in the same area? Windwhistle seems to be the nearest one, but it looks like they're more into trials.

Having spent some time discussing moving back to the Westcountry on an earlier PH thread, I'm finally about to do it. We're moving to Combe St Nicholas (in between Chard and Ilminster) later this week. I thought I'd say hello and see if there was anyone else in the area?
I'm in Chard, not far at all!Small world!

And how many of us just spent our Friday evening in the M5/Exeter Dubai?
I left Exmouth at 20.30 this evening and got onto the Crediton road proper about 21.50 and I think I was the quicker guy through Exeter tonight.
Sidmouth air show didn't help the chaos with the accident.
Heard all about this on facebook. Thankfully Friday night I was on a train to Plymouth to buy an MG-TF, and by the time I came back up the A38 at 9.30pm, it was all clear.I left Exmouth at 20.30 this evening and got onto the Crediton road proper about 21.50 and I think I was the quicker guy through Exeter tonight.

Just realised now I am a week ahead of myself...
