Ryland Cribs Causeway
Discussion
Thought I'd take a look today just in case I might prefer something else other than my new Aston.
Lovely premises. Walked in (ok - in jeans and walking boots rather than designer gear) and a girl on reception smiled at me. The salesman leaning over the counter and the other receptionist ignored me.
Into the Maclaren area, the lamb area, the bentley area (didn't check out the RR area as they're not my thing) as well as the used car area upstairs and ignored throughout. Not even a hello!
As it happens, nothing convinced me that an Aston was anything other than spot on for me, so nothing lost for Ryland. Either the sales staff are psychic or toffee-nosed, but they got it right.
If they worked for me they'd be sweeping the floors tomorrow
Edited to change to Rybrook!!

I wonder if the OP has any idea just how many "window shoppers" "Petrol heads" "social media heros" and "dads with kids waiting for wife to Finish shopping" visit showrooms like this filled with such incredible and expensive machines every day.
Plenty of places like this operate on an appointment only basis due to this very fact.
Do you think perhaps a quick call beforehand would have been a good move?
If you are serious about any of the vehicles that you mentioned, I would urge you to make the trip again, this time with a pre-booked appointment. Your not buying a Ford Focus here, it might pay you to let the Rybrook team know that you are coming.

And do you realise how many genuine punters pop in to look and end up buying? I bought my R8 and my 458 in just such a way.Plenty of places like this operate on an appointment only basis due to this very fact.

Listen, it's no skin off my nose. I confirmed that I'm probably an Aston man and none of those cars were going to change my mind. Then again; a proper look at a Maclaren and maybe a drive might have made a difference...
It's not like they were busy after all.
Rightly or wrongly, I was left with the feeling that if I had turned up in a flash motor wearing flash clothes they would have been all over me!
Ps. And... even those window shoppers and dads with kids deserve politeness and manners imho. The dealership was empty. One customer in the used car bit, and me. 2 receptionists and maybe 6 sales staff.
Always treat every person who walks through the doors as a potential buyer. It's not difficult and only takes a minute to qualify.
Anyone who is so up their own arse they can't be bothered to talk to "the little people" doesn't deserve a job. It's about building rapport and reputation. This is even more important these days with social media sharing of experiences.

When I was about 18 & just passed my test I remember going into Dick Lovetts (western counties at the time) BMW dealer in Bristol, I loved BMW's & one sales guy showed me all around, had a good chat with him & he knew I couldn't afford anything, at the end when we shook hands he said 'well todays dreamers are tomorrows buyers & you'll buy a car from me one day'. That made me feel so good! That said, OP is certainly not a dreamer & if your in sales it should only take you a day or so to realise you never judge anyone no matter what they are wearing, i've sorted mortgages for lots of scruffy builders that have portfolios worth millions.
I went into Dick Lovetts Bristol a few weeks ago with my family to look at 5 series. They did not have one in the showroom so I asked the receptionist if someone could show us a 5 series and we were left standing and waiting with no-one coming back to us.
The receptionist did not offer us a seat or drinks, did not even let me know that someone was on their way. After what felt like ages with the children, but was in fact just over 10 minutes I informed her we were leaving but she did not seem in the slightest bit bothered.

Before Christmas I was in London killing some time and wandered past Jack Barclay, as I had not seen a Bentayaga in the flesh I wandered in, within a short time a salesman came over, I said to him don't waste time on me I'm just a tyre kicker up from the sticks, he was charming, spent 10 minutes showing me around and as I am on my 8th Range Rover he certainly did not waste all his time.
That's the way it should be.
I always tend to pop into dealers without planning. When I bought my R8 I had been into the Audi dealer in Bristol and pored over the car on display many times. Nobody approached me.
Tried it at Tetbury Audi and within seconds a salesman was over, started the car up so that i could hear the V10 and asked if I wanted a test drive. When I said I didn't have my license with me his response was that he wouldn't tell his boss if I didn't!
That was the Saturday, car was mine by Tuesday. And I really did not intend to buy one!
The new Aston Martin showroom at Cribbs is really brilliant too. Lovely place, lovely people, nice coffee and good biscuits.
The point I was making about Rybrook was purely that there might have been a sale there. If they can't be bothered it's no skin off my nose and good luck to them. If it were my business however I would prefer my salesmen to talk to potential customers rather than chat up the receptionists.

I drove in with my DD Kia and my track suit on and they were all over me like a rash ?!
Fantastic facility, wonderful cars and attentive staff in my experience.
I guess you can't hide money
Or maybe they actually thought I was a Chelsea player.
Either way 2nd McLaren now purchased and delivered

Thank you and I prefer it to be known as my town house as opposed to my coastal retreat. Some of us still have to go to work during the week to pay for all the cars and its far easier to commute from a central point.
That said its always nice to spend the weekends at my little 3,954 sq ft coastal house at finest Babbacombe or beach hut as no doubt you would refer to it as.
If you save up your giro's and the Sun run a holiday for £1 offer maybe you can come down and I will show you around as long as you promise not to nick my hub caps

And finest babacombe - you mean Devon, don't people go there to die?
