Hi all,

My girlfriend started learning to drive last year, she had taken up lessons with a popular driving school who taught her for roughly 30 hours. She made good progress but eventually hit a brick wall and had to stop. Basically she got taken for a ride, no pun intended, and they weren't really interested in getting her to pass any time soon. She stopped for several months and is ready to take it back up again. She's 24 and lives over in Ashton side of Bristol.

Could anyone recommend a good independent instructor over that way? She needs to pass Asap due to requiring a car for work.

Used myself 20 years ago, half the family have used Russ.

Works on his own. just mention you had ben posted his way by Matt and you may get discount

Top bloke and has a high pass rate. I cannot recommend him highly enough. And been doing in much longer than the crop of independents who came onto the scene about 10 years ago

Paul Limbrick, 07595920858. Absolutely fantastic, goes at the pace you need, not too slow to make more cash and not too fast that you don't pass. When I started a couple years ago he did 6 lessons for £80, £20 per lesson thereafter.

Thanks for that guys, much appreciated. Russ's website looks a bit dated in terms of whether he's still operating but I've told my girlfriend to ring him. Also will give the other gent a ring.

I can't believe how much people are charging at the moment, some want 28 per an hour! Unbelievable, I thought I was getting shafted at 20 an hour a few years ago! Anymore suggestions would also be appreciated, thanks.

Russ is not into his websites and still thinks word of mouth is good and has kept him going for a long time.

Can't argue with what works for people

£20-£28 a hour to hire a instructor and use their car and their insurance Vs £70-£160 per hour for a mechanic in a dealership.

Shows you how little you pay
