Spotted a Griff...
Discussion
Not me. Mines a K reg. Its Simon Williams you saw (pher 'swill'). I had an argument with a wall in my griff the same night. After just paying for a front end respray too! B*****ks! Quite a bit of damage to near side front corner considering I only hit the wall doing about 15-20mph too. No damage to suspension or chassis. Its at tvrbodyshop at the moment awaiting quotation. Will need new nose, near side pod, indicator and high beam light. The off side perspex pod was cracked too under the compression. Fan/motor for the air con is knackered too. Rad is very slightly damaged (only had a new one of those 13 months ago too).
I was just coming off the Tone Way at the Wicks roundabout bearing left towards East Reach. As you come out of the bend it goes from a 30 to a 40 (I was driving at the speed limit). Just got it out of the garage so tyres were cold and road was greasy so I was purposely going steady, but obviously not quite steady enough. Back end went as soon as I applied the power coming out of the bend. Never had it slide at those low speeds before and not with such unpredictability(remember its a 4 litre not a 500). The fact I was wearing a new, clunky pair of trainers that I've never driven in before probably didnt help either.
Car started snaking, 'No problems' think I, dont suddenly let off the gas, just keep it smooth and ride it out. That was until I clipped the kerb. Its one of those low, sloping kerbs, and as soon as the wheel hit it (with the car still a bit out of shape) it just tramlined straight up it and hit the wall 2 feet beyond. Once I found the inertia cut off switch (that little bugger is hard to find hidden up behind the glove box!) I trundled the 300 metres or so back to my garage.
Oh well, s**t happens, thats why we have insurance I guess. Bit gutted though, thats the first accident I've had since I started driving 13 years ago. I have to hold my hands up and say it was my fault. Just goes to show how carefull you have to be out there though in these cars. I was going steady and you wouldnt believe the damage done at that low speed. I'd hate to think what it would be like to hit another car doing something like 40mph. I have full, guaranteed, NCB but that doesnt stop them putting your premuims up. I'm sure its going to be expensive to fix but hopefully it wont be written off.

Thanks for the support guys, but dont worry, I'm fine. Like I said, it was a relatively low speed accident, I hit the wall doing only 20mph tops. Funnily enough I'm not that upset about it. Just got to accept it I guess. I'd probably be more pi$$ed off if someone else had caused it but theres little point (and even less satisfaction) in being angry with oneself!
Garry, I must admit that in the right conditions with no traffic I've enjoyed taking that corner at considerably higher speeds without incident, thats why I was rather taken by surprise!
I had called the RAC to help locate the inertia cut off switch (but I found it in the end) and what did pi$$ me off was the RAC accident support dept ringing me yesterday. They were blatantly checking to see if I was injured and if I had a possible claim. "Oh you really ought to see a doctor and get yourself checked out, you never know what could be wrong" etc etc. No wonder we all pay so much for our insurance!
