Hi chaps, as above really, we have a track day booked in November but he hasn't actually driven his track car yet...he's obviously itching to have a go. Everything is ready to go, but we need a location. I somehow don't think a hoon around asda car park is in order so would really appreciate any knowledge of fellow south west ph'ers for a location...

There is a place in westonzoyland but it's generally inhabited by learners, I'm sure they would be a little unnerved with him hooning an mr2 around. I hasten to add he's done karting and not an idiot but wouldn't want to break the law as its not road legal (but very up together) or intimidate learners.

Thanks in advance
Mike beer

What sort of car is it? A little tuned or fire blazing track weapon?
Is he just wanting to test nothing falls off round the block or actually familiarise himself with it?
Why not just book a cheap airfield day or an evening session somewhere?

It's a pretty big standard MR2 but with slicks and better suspension. We purposely went for a non turbo version and nothing bonkers for his first one. An airfield evening session would be ideal but it's finding where really ....

And familiarity really as its a good solid car but he's not been out in it yet ...

You can rent Llandow circuit for very resonable money, I did some testing these for around £100 for the whole day. We had the track to ourselves!!

Really? That would be marvellous. I know it's a different circuit but he's raced loads on the kart circuit. I'll look into that! Thanks.

You can hire the runway at Kemble airfield by the hour, phone the control tower. Just watch out for the odd plane trying to land..

There's a little off-the-road circuit at Westpoint - part of the Devon travel Academy. Can probably use that for a little while for pittance.

Is there an insurance issue just "using" a runway with permission? biggrin

Sounds fun though! How long is the runway?
