I started a new job this month in Exeter, back into the public sector for the high salary and job security.

I hadn't got around to providing the paperwork t use my on car, and there are some car club vehicles you can use, but you need to get registered and get a fob, so there were 2 options in the car park. A mountain bike, or a Nissan Leaf.

I thought about the 3 mile trip, looked at the looming clouds and steady drizzle, and what a knob I'd look if anyone I knew saw me, and there was only one choice.

On with the hi-viz, the comedy plastic hat, and tucking the trouser leg into my sock I pedalled off into the distance.

I assume from that, you've both driven the Leaf then?

My neighbour has one. It is an eerie thing to be driven in, but what is really bad is that he turns into a rolling roadblock on the A38 at 45mph as he tries to get back from Plymouth before running out of charge. The 2-3 miles of stop/start traffic behind must put out many times more emissions than he saves.

That sounds like the fault of the driver rather than the car.

Probably the fault of the driver for buying a car that will only just do the daily round trip on a full charge.

Talking of Elecric cars, had a Tesla in front of me today on the way to work. Not bad looking in a smart Mondeo kind of way.
