Have looked at the link info. As usual with Combe lots of talk and little info! Can anyone just come and look around? How much is it? Can you pay on the day rather than book online? etc etc. You know, the kind of stuff mere mortals like me need to know! biggrin

I think you book when you turn up first come first served, bear in mind most clubs have already booked there sessions.

What a day and not in a good way.

I have always tried to look at the pros rather than the cons of these days but today I have admitted defeat. I think this will be my last action day apart from the Retro and Sports Car.

The quality of driving was awful and with the rain, people didn't appear to drive to the conditions. This caused numerous red flags with one incident causing a crash barrier to be pushed back along with the 8 supporting posts.

Was thinking exactly the same as i left! I watched numerous near miss incidents throughout the time i was there. Seeing people throwing empty bottles down the banking at Camp corner was disgusting especially when there's a bin just behind them mad Overall i found the day disappointing and left fairly early.

Coombe action days always have dodgy driving.

Maybe they sell track time too cheap combined with the amount of cars on track?

Today seemed particularly bad, with dodgy overtakes. Answer is for the marshals to actually do something about it.

As in up the inside going into corners?

I wonder if they did track sessions by engine size that would work better, atleast then you wouldn't get huge variations in speed.

Isn't this the point of action days? Grab a bacon buttie, head up to Quarry and wait for the accident? Like Mendips Raceway, but faster.

I hate to say it, but they need to limit the numbers on track. Either restrict volume or charge more.
I wouldnt take a decent car on track, only to find someone in a scrapper slides in to the side of me

shame, but its always stopped me taking to the track at rally day or Japfest etc

Or have graded groups like novice - expert

If people are doing there first track day there either going to go steady or think there hamilton and crash.

I'd take as much instruction as i could get because i know i'm cautious and they'd push me harder than i'd go on my own or maybe have a pace car that shows the novice cars the lines are gradually increases speed?

Here's an extract from some of my footage: https://youtu.be/Fag7WU4n4oE?t=1m

You can hear me ease off the throttle and then a crash almost ensues in front of me - not great.

They used to do it by engine power but there will still be variations - I think they need to crack down on the driving so call them to one side and have a word

Trouble is castle coombe is a nothing track, nothing that attracts large amounts of spectators can race there due to lack of space.

So the track makes money by having action days and getting as many punters on track as possible.

Nice vid but didnt see any crash. What time on the vid was it in case I missed it?

I did Combe a few weeks back, great track. It was a thing we organised ourselves specifically to avoid all the trouble you guys are discussing. All cars were in the 300 to 500 bhp/tonne bracket so not slow. No incidents at all, mostly cos we listen to and respect the intructions we are given at the pre-race briefing!!! It is not a race! No racing is allowed. Overtake on the right only, and on the straights only! If you are past the turn in marker cone then do not overtake! Learn the lines, start slow and build up etc etc.

Basically it can be summed up as boy racers acting like idiots!!! (some of them, not all in fairness but it only takes one dhead to cause an accident!)

Most of our guys were track day experienced but we still had a pace car and line learning 3 laps at the start. Our best guys were lapping in 1min 16secs. Do a comparison, bet they are nowhere near it and still manage to go off or hit other drivers.

I don't think I'd risk my beautiful car on a track with people in their everyday tin tops likely to take me out (not that they could catch or pass me!! byebye
