Anyone already p***ed off with the 20 MPH limit in Bristol
Discussion
Probably like many the new 20MPH limits came in force over the past few weeks. Anyone pissed off with this already
Just got a texted from the wife saying she thinks (hope not) that their is a camera on the kingsway St George that may have caught her taking the kids to school. She was doing around 25.
it seems madness on a long wide road to lower the limit.
Plus one road is a 30, then 20 then back to 30 then 20 again. I live about 1/2 mile from south glos borders.
Sorry just annoyed with our daft major who seems intend in doing his best to pee off every car/bike owner int eh city

They've just done most of my commute home through St George/Lodge Causeway/Fishponds and its a proper pain in the ass not least for the extra time it takes to get home. Most people seem to ignore them anyway and i'm not surprised though there was a news story last week about how the police weren't enforcing it so presumably they might start taking notice now (or indeed following it themselves). Like was mentioned in a previous post I don't mind them doing it on side roads and the like but when you're setting the limit on the main arterial routes into the city to 20 its just a piss take.
Hateful situation but looking on the bright side perhaps whilst the camera vans have now started "shooting fish in a barrel" they may see this more lucrative and as a result will leave better roads alone.
Also if so many normal people who associated speeding with idiots are now caught, they may not be so happy to go along with these idiots running the council

Unfortunately as I live just over the South Glos border I don't get to vote in the mayoral election so I just get to put up with the stupid policies. No pressure citizens of Bristol but sort this out next election, preferably if they do the referendum on abandoning the mayor again then just get rid of it altogether.
Anyone applying to be a town or city councillor, MP or any politician for that matter should be disallowed for the mere desire to become one. Clueless, self-important, pious, odious creatures - every last one of them.
Councils and the like should be like jury service - anyone may be selected at random and obliged to take part for a limited period.

Who votes these half witted brain dead self important knobs into power?
As I said earlier I won't base my southwest business in Bristol and am stopping using businesses based there as arriving by car is a pain. So far two firms of lawyers and architect and my previous dentist have lost my business. Excluding the dentist that's about half a mill £ turnover the City has lost in the last 9 months.

My work/business is in South glos but I need to go into bristol for it. not fun and worse now
I wonder what ferguson did to find out who wanted the 20MPH in the first place. My best it is he talked to all the cyclists, Anti car groups in the area and left out the people who use the roads the most
As per normal these days.
Anyone know the best way (and legal) to get him out of power

The consultation paper made interesting reading. The evidence provided didn't appear to support the 20mph speed limit it recommended.
That George Ferguson got caught speeding himself shows he's completely missed the point on safer driving. It's about awareness of your surroundings and driving appropriately. It's not about rigidly adhering to an arbitrary limit. Had he been adequately aware of his surroundings, he'd have noticed the speed limit of the road he was travelling on and the bright yellow camera that's been there as long as I can remember and slowed appropriately. Clearly, he was inattentive and that cost him.

The trouble is, the 20mph limit isn't something that we will ever come back from. And it's still spreading across the city.
It's rubbish. If this had been thought about properly, I would have been all in favour of small limited sections of 20mph (like the Home Zones) and them being enforced properly. Dangerous areas, if you will.
The blanket bit just means people ignore it.
