Eating in Bristol Sat night
Discussion
It is out anniversary this weekend, and we're off to Bristol for some Goth Rock on Friday at the Anson Rooms followed by a wine fair from 11-2 on Sat(!).
The intention is then to go back to the hotel for a rest and a swim, but the reality will be staring into shop windows and sitting in coffee bars.
Having looked for somewhere to eat online, they all seem to be either chains (which I try to avoid) or fast food joints. The best chain type place seems to be Loch Fyne.
Can anyone suggest a good independant central restaurant for early evening on Sat, up to about £40-£50/head?

For Curry the Raj (same street as Beer Emporium) is good but can get noisy

People rave about Mud Dock but never eaten there...possibly only open during the day only.

Bordeaux Quay is nice, but I personally don't like the location. You could try Graze on Queen Square, or if you like meat and lots of it, Grillstock on Clifton Triangle http://grillstock.co.uk/grillstock-smokehouse-clif...
Bath is massively oeverated to Bristol by Comparison. In the last 12 moths alone Bristol ahs seen about 20 new eateries pop up.
If you really at to push the boat out then Casamia in westbury on trym.
amazing event meal, but expensive. lots of Michelin stars and dry ice.
Id be interested in your views on Steak of the Art Remal. I rate it about the Ox and Cau. Currently my favourite for steak.

San Carlos is actually a chain, albeit on a smaller scale (though I will admit, just about my favourite 'upscale' choice in Bristol)
Excellent food and service, always
Maybe...Food is good (when you eventually get what you ordered) but the last time I went in there it was a total disaster. Waiters constantly fluffing and creeping certain guests, wrong food, cold food, and to cap it all off having someone elses order thrown over me and SWMBO and provide no offer of help in clearing it up or cleaning her clothes. Not my idea of a fun night.Excellent food and service, always
Was in Aqua (Whiteladies Rd) last Sat and was very good and good price. Again chain but heard nothing but BAD experiences from the River Cottage place oposite....Avoid!

Grab a cab, head to North St, Bedminster, late afternoon, have a wander, few beers or coffee (plenty of choice for either) then go to Souk Kitchen for some fantastic, well priced food... not too far a walk back to Clifton afterwards either too, 30 mins or so...

I've lived in Bristol all my life, eaten pretty much everywhere and this is where we always come back to time and time again, definitely our restaurant of choice and it's right opposite The Tobacco Factory. If you venture as far as the London Inn end of North St, there is a place called the Steam Crane, great selection of beer and they also do a mean burger.
Steak and tapas seem to very "in" in Bristol at the moment, can also recommend The Ox, Cau and Cowshed for a big slab of meat, I favour Wilks as the best restaurant in town but you need to book early.
Have a great evening, this City beats Bath every time
