Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a company for alloy wheel refurbishment in the Plymouth area? I want a proper job doing, they'll need to be able to sort out moderate kerbing and powder coating, so a bit beyond all the mobile repair guys.

Cheers

Three's a newish place near Mutley Plain opened called Paint7, but I've only seen one thing they did (a bike) and whilst the paintwork was very good finish, one small panel under the rear light was quite a different colour from the rest. I might take the scabby MR2 wheels up there, but I'm not sure I'd take the maser ones there.

Most people recommend a place on Marsh Barton in Exeter, Carrs and other dealers use them too. I think they're called SouthWest Wheel Repair- a search on PH should find them. I'm up there nearly every weekend so not too bad to drop the wheels in one week and pick them up the next one if anyone needs them carrying back and forth.

I'm waiting on a quote from Paint7, very tempted to give them a try though just out of convenience more than anything else. Will get some pictures and let you all know how it goes.

Hi guys, I use LA Bodywork, they have done a fantastic job with the bodywork on my car and an amazing respray of the wheels. Can't recommend them enough. I've known them a good while and they always do a cracking job. based at Moorview Court, Estover Close, Plymouth PL6 7PL www.labodyworks.co.uk

Do they straighten wheels? I have a really rare set of wheels but one is buckled and need it sorted.

Yeah - last time I was there, a wheel was on one of their "spinny machines" and was being checked for being true and being beaten into shape using combination of heat and a mallet. The work probably goes deeper than that, but they have the gear for it for sure.

Beware painting wheels instead of powder coating. The finish isn't very hard wearing. Looks great but may not last.

I can blast and powder coat with kerbing repairs for around £60/wheel. (When I say "I can", I have an account with a place that does).

I'd have thought driving back would take a lot longer with the wheels off wink

As I said above, I'm in Plymouth during the week but the Mrs lives in Exeter so I drive past the industrial estate they're on most weekends, so if you're down Plymouth area then I can take a set up no problem.

I start a new job in Exeter next month at the same place as the Mrs. However as we've never lived in the same house before I'll probably come to Plymouth at the weekends for a break smile

More than worth it. smile For the best, sometimes you need to travel. I am the same with my TDI remapping. No one in the south west, the best is in Manchester.

It is well worth the hours drive to Marsh Barton.I've had 2 sets of bbs wheels refurbished by them and the finish is second to none. They're very busy so expect a 7 day turnaround. 19" were £288 per set. If you can leave the car they will refit tyres and balance for £5 a wheel.
