Fareham to lands end
Discussion
Ok granted not the most epic of drives but me and mrs no grip are going to visit lands end next week and stay the night, both never been before and we are now on a mission to do mini breaks around the uk rather than keep going abroad, did North Wales and Isle of Man 2 years ago in my Monaro and enjoyed it more than many other holidays overseas.
Anyway I'm rambling so I'll get to the point, I know up to Bridport fairly well but beyond that I'm lost, anyone know some nice roads to take in on route there? Also going to go via somerset on the way back and Salisbury is as far as I know that way (yes I know that's Wiltshire)may be a bit epic after all!
Going in either a Holden SS Ute or a CLK55 convertible but shouldn't make a difference till it rains lol!
Any help appreciated!

Put this in the main events/travel section but probably better to ask the locals!

Used to do Fareham to Plymouth every week for nearly 2 years so know these roads fairly well.
You have more or less 2 choices using the coast road (Dorchester, Bridport, Honiton etc)or the A303, for both if you want fun and not frustration leave after 1900 or before 0500. I always preferred the coast road as slightly less boring and more places to safely overtake the inevitable 40mph Lorry, less speed cameras as well.
Once in Devon you could take the A30 all the way down which is pretty quick but if you fancy a bit of variety and have time to kill take the Torpoint Ferry or Tamar Bridge in Plymouth. This will take you in to Cornwall along the coast which is pretty nice and meandering but it all depends on time of day.
This time of year will be bit of a nightmare with holiday traffic but choose your time and it's a great drive, breath of fresh air from Fareham that's for sure.

I used to work in Fareham. Lived on Rowner for my sins. Now live in Cornwall. Commuted back and forth for years until before we moved down here. There are many routes across country that you could pop into a Sat Nav. I'll have a think and post up a few suggestions. What sort of roads do you prefer. M A B C or cart tracks. I've driven most of them.
If your looking for a fast, but interesting route back home, then take the usual M5 on to A303 route. Then turn off before Mere, on to this one. Misses out the traffic at Sailsbury and has some realy fun bits of tarmac on it. Be worned if you have not been up ZigZag hill before. You will need to turn around and do it again, a number of times, before continuing, or untill the Mrs tells you to stop.

I ride around Cornwall a lot on my bike (petrol version). How much time do you have to get to Land's End and from where? And off that question what type of roads do you want. Obviously not 6ft wide single track ones given the car you are taking!
Bridport to Exeter is a bit limited really. A35 to Honiton, then A30 to Exeter perhaps?
Might be easier to PM me....

To finish the journey, get off of the a30 and head for St Ives, head into the centre, when you come to a mini roundabout saying right for st ives or left for lands end/penzance etc, head left. I love this road to bits.
