Automobilia - St Stephen, nr St Austell
Discussion
Hello Cornishmen,
I'm planning my first trip in almost 30 years to your fine county in a couple of weeks. A couple of questions for you:
1. Is the Automobilia museum in St Stephen, near St Austell, still open? A feature on the BBC website from 2003 touts it as the sort of place a PHer could easily lose himself in for a few hours. However, this Flickr album suggests it's closed down - https://www.flickr.com/groups/automobilia/pool/.
Does anyone know?
2. If it has closed down - any car museums worth a visit, or any must-drive roads in Cornwall or West Devon?
Cheers!

Got a feeling it's now gone.
It's one of those places I passed many times thinking I'd look in. Did eventually as a birthday treat by the ex, was very old school with a lot of local motors/history.
Hawkins, the Peugeot main dealer nearby has a cafe with a collection of old motorbikes and I think some came from that museum.
Sorry to be a bit vague but we used to pass regularly to go to the local big bike shop but they've since moved. I have just sent a text to a friend who lives nearby and will post further if he replies.
eta - have just received a reply, now closed, cars in storage.

Long time lurker here, hello.
Automobilia closed down probably nearing 10 or so years ago and is now flats. Such a shame. The previous owner owns land near St Austell and had talked about creating a new museum but the rotting green goddess and steel structure would suggest things are not going to progress any time soon.
If you are down far west (almost lands end), the B3306 from St Ives to Sennen Cove is a lovely road. Lovely twists and turns and elevations and you're right next to the sea.

This, that is my favorite road of all time, I get to drive it every day in the fastest vehicle ever created.... A white ford transit. If you like jags go and see Kenny hall in leedstown, he has a museum full of amazing cars and memorabilia, he's just opposite central garage just off the cross roads in the center. Just stick to north coast roads, stunning! Automobilia closed down probably nearing 10 or so years ago and is now flats. Such a shame. Drove my 996 from St Ives to Lands End a couple of years ago, my OH realised I was having a great time & kept quiet & let me have fun. One of the best drives I've ever had Automobilia closed down probably nearing 10 or so years ago and is now flats. Such a shame.
