Tradesmen Required - Royal Wootton Bassett, Wilts
Discussion
Hi All,
I've posted up for 3 jobs on Ratedpeople, and as yet, had no replies - work to be completed in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. We're in the process of buying the property and need some quotes so we can line the workmen up once we complete.
I'm after getting -
1 - The wall knocked down between the lounge and dining room. I think its load bearing, so it will need an RSJ or something. I also then want them to fit some internal bifold doors - I've found the ones we want.
2 - Additional underfloor ventilation installed. As part of the survey on the house, it was identified that there wasn't enough under floor ventilation. It needs some more at the front by the lounge, and then some along the rear of the property. The rear dining wall also has damp readings, so we need that looking into also
3 - A fence running down the side of the house, and then a pergola - with roof - going from the side of the house, running around the back of the property also. Where the pergola meets the front of the house, and the fence finishes, we wanted to fit an electric roller door. Effectively providing us a secure car port. I know people will say 'why not use gates' but my wife uses a mobility scooter. Ever tried opening gates when on one whilst also having a baby in a sling, and a dog on a lead? thought not !
There will be other bits and pieces, but those will come with time.
I was wondering where else people recommended. We're happy to pay a fair price for a good tradesman who will do a good quality job. Any ideas?
I'd prefer not just leafing through the yellow pages, and get people on recommendation and past performance, hence trying out rated people.

Hi, why don't you just get on the phone and get a feel for the people you may wish to deal with? Recommendations are the best way if you can.
These web type sites are crap. they cost the contractor money for nothing, can be manipulated in case of a bad reviews and you still don't know who you are dealing with.
At the end of the day any advertising now will go through Google best money spent from a contractor point of view. To put money into these other sites would be a waste and they would never get my money, if my customers are savvy enough to seek me out through the normal means thats good for me and them cost wise.
Not what you want to hear, Just try and get some recommendations, better than any cyber leads any day.
Pat.

We've had a variety of work done by Wildman Construction which we've been happy with.
For fencing we use Kendall Fencing based in Purton. Their work has stood the test of time well.
For electrics we've used Eleko for years. Andy is brilliant.
Matt Barrett for plumbing of B and G Jenkins.
