A few weeks a go now myself and MrsO went away for a couple of nights and en route stopped at the Coventry Air Museum at Cov Airport. Its not too far off our patch at all (if you are in the Cotswolds).

Anyway the reason for mentioning it is that they have a static Vulcan bomber which you are allowed to climb into the cockpit of...and you use the original ladder too. One of their blokes sits up there with you on hand to answer any questions. Fascinating...and at no extra cost although they did have an upkeep tin which I dropped a quid or two into smile

Thought Id mention it as there does appear to be a lot of PH'ers who also like their planes

Saw one of those a few years back flying over Goodwood FOS.
Plane built for a very scary deployment, to see it at low altitude was quite a sight. Apparently they were quite close to crashing it during the display, not sure it that's true but there was alot of engine note changes I remember. Great looking plane, thanks for the heads-up!!

No worries smile

It is worth a visit yes

I (re)fell in love with it a couple of summers ago: we lived around a mile or so from Kemble airfield and at the time the last flying Vulcan (558?) was based/being serviced at Lyneham but did its air worthiness trials over Kemble. It was a lovely day and I had half an hour of what felt like a private flying display as she was put through her paces. It ended with her flying over mine and my neighbours house at what couldnt have neen more than 200 feet at the most!

Awesome...it reminded me of air displays at RAF St Athan years and years ago which I went to as a kid...

It is a good place. The 924OC had their national meet there last year. Here's my porker by a chopper (mine's on the left)

I think the Vulcan is round the other side of that building in the background. It was awesome!

Growing up in the sixties and seventies in Winterbourne, it was a regular sight overhead as a flying test bed. Looks and sounds epic!

There was a Vulcan at RIAT a few years back. Scary enough as it is without the thought of what it was built to do.

It's certainly worth a blat up the Fosse Way and 7 notes to get in (from memory) if you have a free day smile
