The suggestion of an Exeter weekend meet had me thinking.....

After resisting the temptaion to abandon the glosswork in favour of the car on Frday, we went out for a trundle and a spot of lunch on Sat.

I nosied online and found Deer Park Country Hotel near Honiton.

some nice roads to and from it, and handy for M5/A30/A38 for those who just want to get there and back.

They have a lunch deal which was "2 people, 2 courses, 2 glasses of wine for £25". I assumed it meant £25 each, but no, £25 per couple! A third course is optional, but we didn't need it. With extra drinks and coffee it was still under £40.

The car park is unmetalled, but access is good and there are great grounds for those of a photograpic persuasion.

From what I gather, most of these PH runs are a 'boys' day out (Val excepted, obviously!) but this sort of thing could be an ideal opportunity to take the other half out for a treat, nice meal, coffee and a stroll in the grounds with similar car widows.

Obviously you'd have to look very surprised that there are so many interesting cars parked up when you got there evil

The meal deal is apparently until end of April.

Any takers?

Paul, if you pop up a few dates then we'll check the diary. The GTR is going in for paintwork sometime next month in preparation for Japfest on 10th May, so it maybe both Ian and I in the Starlet or the Corsa.

I know it's off topic, but are you coming along to Smeatharpe on Saturday?

Went to school with the owners son, many years ago obviously! The owner used to be into his classic cars, not even sure if it's changed hands by now though.

Could be up for this depending on date.

I just phoned, and sadly the entire place is booked out for all 4 Saturdays in April for weddings frown

It seems that this is the norm for weekends from now on, and that we were lucky to get a Saturday table last weekend.

They stll have availabilty Mon-Fri, but if you're like me then days off work are generally reserved for Doing Stuff rather than relaxing.

Does the deal not run on Sundays, or is the place booked all weekend for weddings?

The cheap deal was (is) Mon - Sat.

Sunday lunch is £24.50/head for 2 courses, plus drinks.

Saturdays are also easier for us than Sundays.
