Hi

I am sorry if this has been discussed before but I wondered if there was anywhere in the Exeter area where you can meet up on a monthly basis for a coffee and a bacon sandwich and to have a chat about cars. Maybe a drive afterwards.

If not, would there be any interest in this? Any suggestions for a good venue?

The bikers have a regular meet on Paignton sea front on a Wednesday evening through out the summer, but I was thinking about a Sunday morning.

Would welcome your thoughts

yes yes yes - you get the idea

I would be able to make most of them & probably go for a blast afterwards

But you need to find a better venue than the Exeter Services where we normally meet. Ideally you want an american diner type of place, we use the Route303 & Route38 places in cornwall & Honiton, so somewhere similar is what your after.......
Otherwise, meet at Carrs garage and get a bacon sarni from the mobile van !

On Marsh Barton there are a couple of greasy spoons, although The Matford Diner is the "better" one.

Also many (most?) supermarkets do brekkies, and have free parking. A lot of bike groups use supermarkets as a starting point for a Sunday run, and TBH avoiding Marsh Barton on a weekend is generally a Good Idea (tm)

What about the café at Haldon? Never eaten in there but passed it the other day and thought it might be a good place to have a meet......

Would definitely be up for some Sunday meets around Exeter. The lovely weather we had the weekend just gone really makes you wanna get up and out in the car.

If you want to go slightly upmarket there is always Darts Farm just outside of Exeter, some nice roads around there too.

Darts Farm plus a bit of a tour of Woodbury Common up to Daisy Mount sounds good. biggrin

Darts is a little upper class for me though - I do drive a Skoda. wink

I'd be up for this, Exeter would be ok for me, I'd probably attend every other month or so as it would end up costing an arm and a leg in fuel.

Start a list of potential attendees and see what you end up with.

Is the Route303 any good for food?

It does what it says on the tin, quite well

A good american style cafe - great breakfasts, lots of variety.
Not bad for a bite at lunchtime.
But its not for romanmtic candlelit evening meals with the wife
good value overall.

I actually rate the A303 (Honiton onwards) as slightly better than the cornwall version of the same place, owned by the same people.

Thanks for all the comments and I am glad it is not just me that would like somewhere to go on a Sunday morning for a coffee and a chat about cars.

I will start a search for the right venue and then post again.

Guys Haldon diner next to racecourse does fantastic breakfast and is spotless, great parking area full tarmac and easy access for low spoilers, dart farm parking not too good as gravel and chippings and the restauarant is quite expensive and normally theres a queue to get in.Just my opinion of course but would be up for supporting any sunday morning meet in this area.

cheers simon

Who needs candles. Mrs G realy likes it. Obveously It's taken years to bring her down to my standards.

Mrs G's Navigation is not so good though. She actualy sugested we could stop there, on the way back from Exeter airport, this evening.

Not sure if the same place but supposedly a good diner at haldon forest. I assume you would just use the main forestry car park which is large and good surface. Good reviews too.

I'd be well up for this!

I only registered today after lurking for ages so I could post. I only live down the road from Haldon Diner. Any other suggestions?
