Sounds good but I can't help but think its just going to turn into another chav meet with and alot of wanna be boy racer's .also the distinct smell of drugs that every boy racer seems to think makes them cool

Wot time though I may turn up but can't say ill stick around if its like the above

I'm picturing 100's of kids in hideously stickered MR2's and old civics doing burnouts and pumping st music
At best, it'd be worth spectating as they drive past flat out

I won't be going, quite why the great British public feels that an actor responsible for some frankly dire films is more worthy of memorial than one of the world's greatest historical figures boggles my mind.

Plus, it'll be chavtastic.

Probably because it's a franchise that inspired a generation of car fans. It's something many can relate to therefore feeling attached to the situation in a way. Also "one of the worlds greatest historical figures" is a controversial matter. I never knew of Paul walker hanging around with international tyrants just as I never knew of Mandela drifting gt-r's. What I do know is which of the two I would spend my spare time doing.

It would be a great opportunity to get some photos for the "Badly modified cars" thread.

To purchase loud garish cars and put them in rows in your local bus stops. Then as maturity comes the stickers get fewer and the performance gets higher turning into what is now known as meets which many forum members enjoy today. I would not be as much of a car fan had it not been for the fast and furious films. Hearing the v8 in the first film when I was young mad me want to own a big American v8 one day. I would imagine anyone who wasn't in their teens at first film release would fail to understand but I am sure those same people also have a movie or two that pushed there desire for performance cars.

Not sure why you've made that odd generalisation about the British public based on one event in Bristol with 1000 odd people attending. Fairly sure there has been far more press, respect, memorials and so on held for Mandela, and quite rightly so.

However, as said above, Paul Walker appears to have actually been a very decent guy who did his bit for charity whilst also remaining very humble and private (rather than turning into a big hollywood diva). The event will be raising a fair bit more for that charity, a very worthy cause, and I can't see how that's a bad thing.

It'll obviously be a tad chavvy but we were all young and driving saxos and civics once smile

I'll pop along for a bit just for an excuse to take the car out and perhaps take a few pictures of the more interesting cars there (of which there should be quite a number).

The whole thing is going to absolutely kill the traffic in the centre of Bristol though, lunchtime on the 2nd to last Saturday before Xmas.....not good timing at all.

Only people going I know of are under 20 and do have badly modified cars. 1ltr polo slammed etc.. so one of the reason I will not be going.

But fully understand the good intentions behind this

Lol, controversial in the same way one feels bad for Nazi's killed by the criminal Jewish resistance in Germany.

That Rosa Parks lass was criminal scum as well!

I'm not quite sure how not wanting to be associated with a bunch of boy racer kids in 'slammed' corsas and track suits is being a snob. I'm the least snobbish person ever, but have no intention of attending
I appreciate they're doing it to raise money for a charity (although quite how many people will 'donate' at a free to attend street cruise, I don't know) and that the intentions are good, but it's not for me
Hope it goes smoothly

So if I'm getting this thread, someone post up a meet to celebrate the life of a fellow petrol head and the thread is then used, by several of the forum members to have a cheap pop, at other petrol heads, for being young and having different taste in their choice of car.

Show a little respect guys. Better still log on and give a few bob at, www.roww.org, Just click on the "Donate Now" button, it's real simple.

Stay safe.

Just curious, what is Mr Walker's connection with Bristol? Did he film some scenes there,I know some of the last movie was filmed in the UK.

There is none that I know of. As far as i can gather this is a standard weekly/monthly meet for the local Honda owners club that they decided, due to timing, to hold in memory of Walker. Word spread, it got in the paper, posted to numerous other forums (S2000, mkivSupra, here, VAGowners, vxronline etc) and now it seems it'll be rather big.

And full of chavs. Hopefully at least some of them will give a few quid to charity and the people collecting won't just nick all the money to spend on ketamine and lexus lights for their cars.

Well yes, a few quid to charity. Car meets are obviously a big scene in Bristol, they died out here (Macclesfield and surrounding) a decade ago when the 24 hour Maccy D's banned them. Mainly dogging in the carparks round here now, I can't imagine many of them will be fans of Mr Walker's work.
