Installer-Multi Fuel Stove
Discussion
Funny you should ask that now. We're going through exactly the same process here (South Glos) and I've spoken to three or four installers today and I've got two guys coming out on Sunday and Monday. If you PM me I'll let you know who sounds best and who's the cheapest. I found them both on the hetas website (www.hetas.co.uk) names and addresses are at the top of the page under "installers"
It helped me as I know a few people in the trade and my old work colleague who's just left our company after 15 years has just partnered up with Almondsbury Forge to create Almondsbury Ecoheat dealing with Biomass Boilers.
So goes without saying that we recently went with Almondsbury Forge based on their quality of work, experience and knowledge. They use there own guys and can supply far more products / options than anyone else as well as make bespoke items to suit. Plus Mark Jones is one of the good guys out there and a fellow petrol head with a 997 Turbo to boot.
Having seen their work, another company I'd also recommend is Period Fireplaces. A lot of the other local installers source there granite / marble from there. John Ashton there is a proper gent and there's no hard sell. They also use their own guys for the install. He's just installed a Burley Debdale including having to create a chimney breast etc for a work colleague of mine.
Both of them are competitive and flexible on price.
The Fire Basket in Fishponds as well as some others in the area will just quote you for the Stove and sub out the work / flue / hearth etc to AN Other, which can be problematic if things go wrong. You my also find that the stove will be quoted, whereas the work may be an estimate.
Hope the above helps.

Thanks for all of your replies.
Visited Almondsbury Forge yesterday, very impressed with their showroom and the stoves on display. Today I visited both Feltham and Flues showroom in Patchway, again impressed with fires on display and the advice offered by the sales lady in attendance. Also visited Kendle’s showroom on Gloucester Road, leaving with a two page questioner for me to complete and return.
Tomorrow visiting Period Fireplaces (thank you Crazycraig), and then on to R. W. Knight at Marshfield, and in the afternoon a home visit from Old Sodbury Builders.
My main problem in selecting a stove and installer, is that I have a large lounge, with a small fireplace opening, and in looking for a stove with an output above 8kw, the same will dictate both the size, style of stove I can have installed etc. etc, and therefore why a site survey from an experience installer is a top priority for me.
Both companies not replying to my telephone calls, their reluctance to carry out a site survey, and their long dated installation dates, been quoted February 2014, clearly indicates an increase in trade for wood and multi fuel stoves.
