Any local PHers log onto the consultation link and object to yet more reductions proposed. A46 from Crosshands to Petty France down from NSL to 50mph and Aust to Alverstone NSL to 50mph.

Usual reasons but no justification as I can see.

Thanks for the prompt - I spotted the signs this morning, then annoyed since the change makes no sense at all when you drive the sections where the limit drop is proposed (typical South Glos Council behaviour, then...)

I had to drive from Silverstone to Chipping Sodbury last week so decided to visit some old familiar roads and go across country. Pretty bad decision and the final straw was a knobber in a Rover who did 44mph from Tetbury to Sodbury high street.....without variation.

"I have easily achieved 130mph on that stretch, 50.....you must be mental" Or something like that smile

I just said that there seems no justification as they had no link to say excess speed was the cause of the 6 injuries, one of which was a fatal.

I don't think there are any key words as I doubt they would consider changing their minds.

I have also written to the transport seceratary to ask if it is true that by lowering the speed limit that the council does not have to maintain to the same standard as an NSL. If what I have been told is true the main reason for all the reduction is to save money.

Plenty of overtaking opportunities between Tetbury and Sodbury - you just need to be ready for them wink

The fatal one from personal knowledge - teen girl got off a coach opposite the petrol station and ran across the road blind side in front of the coach, hit by car overtaking the coach. Speed related accident? No! They use the headlines to justify their aims, the detail does not support it.

Only spotted the A4175 between Willsbridge and Keynsham has been lowered to 40mph from 60. Never had a issue with doing a safe 60 on this stretch of road when the traffic is clear.

Unsure why they have lowered the speed of this road. never seen many incidents or major accidents on here over the past 15 years of using this road. I don's mean none just not many.

I don't know what your experiences are down there, but I used the road very regularly from 1964 to 1996, and still use it occasionally to this day. It always struck me that it was one of those roads where Joe Public seemed to invent a speed limit. Yes, whilst you can get a healthy move on when the road is clear, for most of the day you'd run up behind some tit doing 40 anyway.

Spaximus....
.....any chance of an update on the downgrading of road repairs with speed limits?

I've been commuting the A46 for fifteen years now Yate-Cirencester and couldn't believe it when I saw the signs. Of course, missed the consultation closing date, not that it would have made any difference, but thinking of writing to the local press (Gazette series) re speed reductions in South Glos. specifically re A46 and in general too.

When was the fatal at the petrol station? I don't remember it I'm afraid, but do remember fatal head on at Petty France on the corner early hours of the morning. Car came round the bend wrong side of the road, cause unknown and head on into oncoming traffic. Again speed not known to be the cause (probably fell asleep), must have been about eight years ago?
This resulted in 40 limit, high friction surface and very regular visits from mobile camera van.

Road maintenance downgrade would be a very interesting angle for my letter, especially on a major trunk route.

Not had any response back yet from the council or from the transport minister. I do not expect one from the council as they seem to be hell bent on reducing all the NSL in the area with the same weak "facts".
If there is none forth coming I will write to Steve Webb MP and see what he can find out.

There are loads of places for camera vans to park on the bit they're lowering to 50mph, no doubt they'll be keeping busy frown
