Anyone owns Skoda Octavia TDI VRS...?
Discussion
Dad has two cars with the same 170bhp TDI engine in (both audis though) - The Audi A3 which is the most similar of the two drives nicely, gets good fuel economy, and doesn't really feel very "dieseley" to drive.
The vRS does look a bit better - bit more sporty, better wheels, and probably has more room / space in the back than an A3.

I am considering to buy one on a 2007 plate. I've posted a thread on the VAG page. Members been telling me not to go for PD unit, as came with a few problems. Been recommended to buy the CR unit, but budget is restricted, so won't be able buy the CR unit.
Have you come across any problems, since you owned Octavia VRS tdi, pd unit?

I had one a few years back and owned it for 2 1/2 years from factory delivery (2007 '07' Registered, Hatchback)
On one hand it was great. I thought it had strong performance from the 170 PD Engine and was a decent handler with a nice responsive chassis and decent brakes etc, and quite enjoyed chucking it about on my drives to/from work across the South of England and Wales. It was massively practical and relatively comfortable.
On the other hand though, it was the most unreliable car I have ever owned suffering from 3x significant issues as well as a handful of smaller, more acceptable ones...
- I had an engine mount snap, writing the Engine off and causing the car to be off the road for 6 months whilst arguing with VWAG over liability & warranty. This fault occured less than 2 weeks after I took delivery of the car.
- The Gearbox failed a few months after that and needed a replacement unit, due to loss of Oil on a damaged seal on the main shaft, Techs believed this was due to the Engine Dropping when the mount snapped, causing the seal to be distorted.
- The Exhaust DPF System Failed prior to getting it in for a Recall/Update.
My Local dealer was brilliant in trying to help with the issues, but the whole ownership experience put me off ever getting another, although I do appreciate them for what they are still, and they are proving to be a bit of a bargain now. 2 Colleagues had them afterwards with no issues atall, so I was just unlucky.
