One of the jobs im considering for post uni is based in or just outside of Cheltenham.

Having never been there, whats it like?

I've lived in London for the past three years, in the country by Oxford prior to that

Preferably looking for views from early 20s, in terms of the nightlife, bars, clubs etc.

But also a general idea of the place. Expensive to live? Good roads? etc etc

Any input most appreciated.

Cheers

Right then.

Firstly, if you like living in london, you'll hate Cheltenham. It's not a country outpost, but it's hardly a heaving metropolis.
There's plenty of nightlife (students help it along a fair bit).

House prices are silly at the moment, but renting is reasonable. Everything else is fairly average. Blissfully cheap after london.

Roads are good for southern england, plenty of costwolds to play in.

Where's the job based? Whatever you do, don't live in gloucester, it's cheap for a reason.
Feel free to drop me a mail if you want more info.

Rico, as your first career job, is it really a good idea leaving London, with the lower payscale and less frequent opportunities to switch jobs.

Especially as you're already used to the god awful place!!

True Daz, true.

I emailed you the other day (did you get it?)

I very much doubt i'll leave london. It's just this job in Cheltenham would be a great opportunity.

Arrived in my inbox first thing this morning. Wanted to reply with some detail and today has been a tad busy, so it was left on my to do pile. Agent006 has a lot more info than I will ever be able to give you. With his experience of having both lived and worked there. Suggest you two have a chat rather than buggering about with emails.

Cheers Daz.

I've mailed Agent006 so hopefully i'll gain an insight into the place from his first hand experience.

If i do move, we'll have to meet for a beer though Daz

Cheltenham's about an hours drive away by the time you get into town! (same the other way)

We do have frequent Bristol PH meets usually involving Beer and pie/curry on a tuesday or wednesday night.

I'm not in my early twenties anymore, but do live near Cheltenham. So I can't comment on the nightlife anymore, well not very often anyway.

However I do like the roads round here, good access to the Cotswolds & my prefered option of Wales.Good for both bike & car.

I agree with the earlier post about the difference between Cheltenham & Gloucester (House prices & appearance of the places)

Roop and myself lived in Bishop's Cleeve and then Tewkesbury before moving back up North.

Hit the center of town for bars, not that many clubs apart from Time.

The C3C are a superb bunch and loads of good driving roads.

Bristol isn't too far and neither is Birmingham.

Fantastic place to live and virtually no speed cameras/laser guns.

i live in chelt,i'm 26,and i think its a fantastic place for its size.

nightlife is good and varied with something for everyone.

Montpellier side of town is the more upmarket side, the more you go into town the more studenty it gets.

chelt is also full of fit women!

as driving goes, there are many great driving roads around the area what with the cotswolds being on your doorstep and the scenery is fantastic!

house prices are expensive but its a good place to live and has good links to london if your looking to get back at times.
