Mountain Biking in Bristol
Discussion
Hi all,
Is anyone able to recommend a good technician to service a mountain bike in Bristol? I have been going to Blackboy Cycles in Clifton but have not been too impressed...
Would there be demand for a PH weekly trip out on a Saturday / Sunday morning? Ashton Court, Cwm Carn, Mendips & Quantocks are all do-able in a morning
Cheers,
Ed

I've used Mud Dock lots and had excellent service from them. They built my current set of MTB wheels for me and they are still running straight and true after a few thousand miles of off-road abuse.
The charges for parts are quite a bit higher than 'chain' stores who benefit from economies of scale.
There's Evans on Lewins Mead if you'd prefer a large chain store, the Specialized shop on Park St, Bike at the top of Park St / The Triangle.
I've also used Psycleworx near Clifton train station who were good.
Jake's bikes might be worth a look. V.small shop which offers a 'tuition' option. Pay workshop fee but you can go and help / watch while he works on your bike so you learn how to do x,y,z yourself. Not able to service suspension though, but the standard brake-bleed, gearing set-up etc is no problem. They are in the Bear-pit roundabout. Tend to deal with the more affordable commuter-type bikes, but I've taken my Scott Scale 35 there a few times and leart a fair bit from tuition sessions.

I've used Mud Dock before and cant fault there service, used Halfords a few months ago when I needed new crank bearing replaced and I have to say they were brilliant. They found me the part I needed far cheaper than I could source ....Halfords get knocked a lot in the bike section on this forum but the lads at there Ashton branch did a top job for a great price
I would absolutely not recommend Mud Dock. I've bought 2 bikes from them since May this year, spending £6k+. I won't go into detail on here but the service and attitude has been disgusting. I've spoken to a few other since and they've found the same. As ever, it's the people who work there that let the place down. Please feel free to drop me a private message if you're wanting more detail.
I'd take a look at BW cycles. I've used them a couple of times for servicing and repairs. Given who they're owned / run by, the service matches.
I'm around Cwmcarn and Afan quite often and wouldn't mind meeting up if anyone's up for it.
Is anyone else entering either RunRider or Oktoberfest in a few weeks?
