Sadly it looks like my good-as-gold MR2 has decide to have gearbox bearing issues, the main dealer as said it will be 1200 for the bearings done, and they wont know if its sorted until they've done it, and a new gearbox is 3k. So I think it would be best to have it reconditioned from the sounds of it.

So if anyone has any recommendations for good gearbox people in Somerset or Dorset that would be great, I've been recommended Thornford transmissions by the chap at Toyota, and I've also seen Gillingham performance on the net, although I'm not really a tuner type so wasn't sure if it would be the best place for what I'm after.

Any advice would be great on good people, feel free to PM if you don't wont to post about garages on here.

Thanks in advance

My dad has used them. Cant remember what they were like. All i know is that there certainly wasnt a bad word to be said about them.

Fuuny enough I have literally gotten off the phone to James re my wifes Renault Horse box job they are doing. Good honest bunch who wont rip you off. Most things are not a problem. I fix cars myself but I send the awkward stuff their way. I'm working away & my wifes horse box developed a nasty noise, sent it in today to check its not the cambelt (which it is'nt) just a PAS pump.

Definately a good bunch & not too costly at all on hourly rates

Used these guys quite a few years ago now when the box on my Rover 220GSi went - Gear Change at Burtle near Bridgwater...

http://www.gearchange.co.uk/contact-us

No idea what their prices are like now but they were very reasonable at the time.

I've used them also, but a long time ago. Good service and prices at the time.

Bristol is probably further afield than you want to be going, but these people are very good:

They're on the Fishponds Trading Estate and are used by various local garages for specialist work.

Best wishes, Colin

Thornford Transmissions are in my village. Heard some decent reviews by people, and they regularly have rally cars in there up on the ramp.
