I have to go to Avonmouth on Monday and I am coming from Liverpool.
I was thinking whilst I was in the area I'd visit somewhere with the Mrs.
Bath seems a nice place and only 45 minutes away.
Are there many car parks in the centre?

Yes!

Leading choices are Charlotte Street - the easiest to find on your way in from Bristol, and open-air; or Southgate - which is covered/underground.

Thank you smile Brilliant site.

Any suggestions for the best things to do for a tourist?

Plans so far are to visit the roman baths.

The Baths are definitely worth a visit if you haven't seen them. Note at this time of the year it's open until 9pm, and if you are staying over it's well worth visiting them in the evening - you'll avoid the crowds and have the place more or less to yourself. Takes an hour or two to wander through, ending at the main Bath - very atmospheric at twilight. Nice to do after early dinner, or before a late one!

There are plenty of other things listed on the visitbath.co.uk site - have a play. It's a pedestrian city so just to take a wander - see where you end up; the centre's not so large you can get lost. Plenty of good little pubs and eateries too!

If you really want to relax I'd certainly recommend the Thermae Baths. Bring a swimming costume and relax for a few hours.

Good luck.

+1 to teh suggestion for Thermae Spa - a good shout if you really only have a few hours, and have sat in the car 5hrs down and expecting 4+hrs home. It's something quite different - not cheap but good value IYSWIM.
