...just flew over our house smile

RIAT starts today/tomorrow (military buyers and VIPs before the weekend punters I think)so I guess they are practising/flying in for that.

It doesnt matter how old you get it still a great sight when they come over at low level

biggrin

They'll be at Dawlish Air Show - 23/24 August. Unfortunately (for me) this clashes with Carfest South frown

Saw them take off at Bournemouth at the weekend, purely by chance. Never seen them take off before!

They were doing a display over Shrivenham (East of Swindon)at 1245 today. I don't know if it was practice for RIAT, as it is rather close, or a private display perhaps. It showed up in our NOTAM's this morning before we took off.

Graham,

Are you next to the airbase? We live in Kempsford and will be spending the weekend in the garden watching the airshow with a birdseye view smile

Sometimes living near an airbase has its upsides smile Although, to be honest with it being an inactive base there aren't really any downsides either!

It's been busier than usual for a Friday before the airshow, I think the hot weather is really bringing everybody out. Roll on tomorrow and the decending of the masses smile

Indeed. There was a white Catalina flying about earlier which was beautiful and we watched the A400M enthusiastically join the circuit too (fingers crossed I shouuld be flying it in a few years!). Looking forward to tomorrow smile

What was the Shrivenham display about? Sorry if its really obvious like theres a base of some sort there, but I'm not familiar with the local area!

Forces staff college. I think they were flying into Fairford and done something on route. The guy in the picture was the ground controller I think.

Smiles - I am in Ciren so I guess we get the formation laps, as it were...

Update on yesterday: at various times we had flyovers from

- 2 x Harriers
- 1 x Red Arrow escorting a large transport plane

plus

- another flypast of all the Arrows in the afternoon

They come across so low it is most excellent biggrin

Not quite - Harriers are no longer flyng in the UK. We havent got any left (officially) as they were all sold to the USA.

Probably 2 x Tornados.

The Reds were superb at RIAT today - as always - & i'm looking forward to seeing them display again at RIAT tomorrow after which i will see them at Dawlish & at Dartmouth on 30 August.

Not as silly as it sounds: US Marine Crops and Spanish Navy still fly them. Not sure what USAF/USMC participation is at RIAT this year, though.

From an angle, they could have been Alpha Jets from Patrouille de France or Qinetiq.

Best wishes, Colin

So you will be working on the Saturday then? This years display has moved from its traditional Thursday spot to the Saturday.

They used to display at Dartmouth regatta on the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, does anyone know if they are this year?

The Red Arrows are displaying at Dartmouth Regatta at 6pm on Friday 30 August.

Sadly, for the second year running, there will not be a display by the Eurofighter - which is a shame as to see this awesome piece of kit displaying over Dartmouth two years ago was stunning.

Particularly when it set off hundreds of car alarms in Dartmouth & Kingswear!!!!

Jets are just cool. cool

A quote from an old school friend's LinkedIn profile:
In the RAF I was a fighter pilot, specialising as a Harrier Qualified Weapons Instructor. My responsibilities included pilot training, standardisation and tactical planning. In 1993 I was selected to fly in The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows. I flew displays during the 1994, 95 and 96 seasons. During that 3 year tour of duty I displayed in The Middle East, South Africa and The Far East. In 1996 we displayed to a record crowd over Sydney Harbour for Australia Day.

bd's a decent chap too. irked
