Well another consultation up for a reduction in speed limit. This one is the road between YAte and Winterbourn with a special bit in Iron Acton.
The Iron Acton one is 20mph limit in the village due to the being part of the cycle network. The rest is the bypass.

Justification is 17 accidents and injuries, 1 fatal, 1 serious, all the rest minor or slight. This is between the middle of 2008 and now.
When you read further the minors are all outside the Farm shop or the Petrol station but no dates where ther has been slight bumps with people not seing a right turning car, so one could summise that the serious one is in 2008 hence the odd date.

The current limit is 50 to reduce to 40. When I first moved to Bristol this road was an NSL.

I shall object as once again South Glos are using dubious statistics to justify a reduction that is not necessary.

I have been writing to South Glos road engineer to gain information which inspite of several emails there has been no reply. I have written to my local councillor, again no reply. Now I will write to Steve Webb and expect the usual "speed kills" reply.

One of the questions I have asked is following a comment on here from a retired raod engineer, if they reduce the speed limit on any given road, the maintenance required is not the same as an NSl. So the lower the limit the less the repairs, which if you keep going might make the road safety worse and lead to a further reduction.

We will soon in South Glos be at walking pace.

Also objected. I feel that if the limit is reduced, people will still drive about at 10mph under the limit (ie, there are a lot of people who currently do 40 in the 50 zone) and we'll end up following people around at 30.
Also, with regards to road maintenance, the roads in South Glos are already awful, that road is one of the better ones at the moment. I don't want to see (or feel) it ruined like many others.

It is an uphill battle as South glos are sneaky. They put the proposal for the changes all together and as a result they have had support from Iron Acton Parish council which I am sure were interested in only the 20mph village bit.

What is really getting to me is that I have objected now to three proposals and only had the standard reply which gives a reprot on the impact of speed on casualties. Yet they have not answered on single question on which of these accidents were caused by excess speed? If any of them were avoidable if the speed limit was less.

I further asked how many schemes they have proposed to reduce speed limits have not after consultation been put through. The decisions have been made in my opinion already.

They really are, apparently a lwa to themselves.

The Transport and Strategic Environmental Committee has recently voted to implement the proposed 30mph speed limits on the Latteridge Road the same being the B4059. Local red trouser wearing residents have undergone training by the Bib in the use of speed guns , forming themselves in their own Community Speed Watch Group, reporting speeding offenders to Bib for further action.

Some sections of Latteridge Road I agree with the speed reduction, also the 20mph past the primary school and through Iron Acton village, and again a reduction to 40mph on the Iron Acton bypass B4058.

I personally find it a lot easier to keep to a road's speed limit, if the road I am driving along, the speed limit does not keep changing from eg.30mph to 40mph, then to 60mph, then back to 40mph, particularly on a short twisty section of road like Latteridge Road.
