Hi All,

I've been thinking of moving to Cornwall, quick bio: I live in Jersey, have done for 12 years, moved from Devon but the cost of living in Jersey is very high and I could get a house in Cornwall for the price of a tiny one bed flat in Jersey. I don't have a family base as such so I've nowhere to default to that feels like home.

I love Cornwall and always visit whenever I visit England every year, I know it's a difficult county to live in as it's not as economically strong as other counties might be and the second home set have pushed house prices up (but still nowhere near as high as Jersey) and work could be the killer (I work in the motortrade doing parts) I love St Ives area (as does everybody) but I'm aware that I'd need to consider surrounding areas.

So I guess what I'm asking is, has anybody else upped sticks and moved to Cornwall and could offer any words of wisdom/advice?

Thanks All.

HI

I moved from Northamptonshire to Devon a few years ago, but growing up down here in the 70/80's made it easier for me as i know the areas.

House wise, if your happy living away from the main tourist centres then the housing is cheap.
If you want to live in the middle of St.Ives then it will cost you a premium.

Also there are more car dealerships and part jobs available away from the tourist locations.

Look up Hawkins Motors, Vospers etc who are big players in car sales and Mill auto supplies as motor factors.

Research is the key, time for you to hunt around on Rightmove, Google Maps etc.
Job wise, I would write to people direct and offer your CV, alot of jobs are word of mouth rather than adverts due to the community feel and geographic restrictions in Cornwall.
Good Luck
