I am looking to bribe someone with cash/alcohol to help me get an engine running on a barn-find.

Yes, its another "pink" Porsche 924 with the 2 litre engine, and all I can say at the moment is the car is turning over - Starter is strong, but there appears to be no fuel, and not convinced there is a decent spark either. Anyone mobile? (Car is currently SORN and untaxed)

I'm happy to lend a pair of hands, but I need the direction of someone who knows their way around the LT "van engine" biggrin I might need a pair of hands to remove the complete engine from my donor. The only issue is I don't have an engine crane.

I'll hopefully be starting on the paintwork this weekend, rain permitting

Jason - You can have a go at that cant you ? You have more knowledge than me, and I am Ok around petrol stuff.

Check the plugs by pulling them out and looking for the spark on turnover
Check the fuel by disconnecting the fuel line & turning over
Soak the cylinders with WD40 thru the plug holes for a couple of days
Check the dizzy
Replace the fuel as it will be stale

This was not as cheap as that! biggrin

Most of the above processes sound fine in theory, but I suppose I should focus on the paint first. Pulling through fresh fuel will be key though I think.

I wouldnt focus on the paint - you could be polishing a turd

If its a non-runner, then the paint wont matter will it ? or would you put a new lump in it

great old motors dead easy
pull out an injector they just pull out they are held in with a rubber grommet. take off the rubber pipe that fits on top of the metering head. grab hold of the 10mm bolt in the centre of the metering plate with a pair of pliers make sure the plate moves up and down easily without sticking. If it moves ok lift it up and stick a screwdriver in the gap to prop the plate up put the injector in a jar, crank the engine the injector should be now flowing a smooth stream of petrol. Tell me what happens.

What happens is I don't really know what you're saying biggrin But I assume its something to do with the fuel lines from the head to the block thing.

I might have a play at some point. I am currently playing with the paint.... Much more my cup of tea

I would check the fuel pump is whirring, if not go for the fuel pump rely, I have a recollection of this being the fault on a non running one years ago. Something in the back of my mind says it had a fuse fitted in the end of the relay and it was green with corrosion, cleaned it and car burst into life.

Good luck.

I would start from basics to begin with...
all the plugs out, and do a compression test on each cylinder. Ideal between 180 and 200 psi on each cylinder.

I dont know Jason, I think I would make the best car from the 3 you have then get it vinyl wrapped in a bright orange or lime green, far less time consuming than all that rubbing and polishing. Then track it and daily drive it

Yeah - I more or less have. The first one I have (the one I took to Pentillie) has MOT and insurance, and getting it taxed effective 1st May. It does run. biggrin

Unfortunately this new one seems too far gone in many respects, so I am likely now to consign it to the "donor" class - I've already found out my main car was missing two drain hole fittings at the back which I was able to salvage off my other donor...
