Number plate police Portishead WTF!
Discussion
Just had what looked like a community support officer knock on my door, to tell me that my number plate on my car, parked on my private drive, had a 1cm space where there should be a 3cm space. And that if I didn't fix it in 7days he'd come back and fine me some where between £60 and £1000
Has any one else had this?
He is completely right, about the error on the plate.... But....
What is the world coming to where the best thing for a police/ community officer to do is to drive round a well off estate looking for number plate error, on time and a half on a Saturday?
Vent over!

the alternative of course is that we remove the ability to purchase plates in the UK except from DVLA/ VOSA local offices

I Don't think they can do that! I'd tell the little scroat what to do with the notepad lol
perhaps not but i'm quite sure that a sworn officer might forget his VDRS forms pad should he happen across the car ... Also i hope the OPs mis represented plate didn't cost him #too much , so he doesn't lose too much when the VRM is forfeited ...

No law about mis-spaced no.plates on a PRIVATE drive AFAIK.
Yeah, I agree. But are we now assuming that OP doesn't actually drive the car ?If it's true and the OP has the car just for show on his drive, then yes, the officer was outside of the law in requesting it's amended and the op would have a very strong case to have the notice overturned
If, however, it was on the drive at this point, but is normally driven on the road with an illegally placed number plate, then tough st and get the plate spaced properly
Brother got his radio knicked, we heard the smash and his alarm, ran round but too late to see which way they'd gone. Called the police straight away, only to be told to call round tomorrow to report it. Now I know why.
