J B Autos or Peels MotorKraft - Perfect colour match/finish
Discussion
Hi All
I have a Maserati 4200 in a light blue and it picked up a scratch to the passenger door which has been nagging me, a month or so ago I did lots of research and went in person to a number of bodyshops including Bryn Jones.
After discussions/research, I came out with J B Autos and Peels MotorKraft, both seem very capable and produce good work. Both have quoted me about £350-400 to add a bit of colour to the door, and blend laquer back into the front wing and door panel. Also dent removal for a super slight ding in the wing to make it perfect. Not cheap but should produce perfect results.
A number of bodyshops weren't confident of colour match, provided no certainty, went overboard or got scared of getting a colour anywhere near similar (including the lotus based specialist behind prodrive!).
So given the pricing is near identical, any viewpoints on the quality of work from actual customers?

JB Autos painted my Sunbeam rally car (on his website), a first class job. Not specifically colour matching feedback though as per your request as it was a complete repaint.
He also repaired and painted a wing on my old A4. Whilst I wanted a cheapish job as it was to sell the car, so my viewpoint is based on the sum of money I paid (he really wanted to put a wing on it, but I wouldn't pay for one) I was very happy with the work and the colour match seemed ok. Sold a couple of weeks later so no view on how it faded in.

Is it a proper deep scratch? Sometimes I have found a damn thorough bit of paint correction can remove scratches. The one on this BMW was done by getting a bit too close to undergrowth in a hedge and something sticking out and making this mark. Intensive polishing on my part got it out.

You can't feel the line with your nail but buffing out doesn't work.
If that's the case then its polishable! Scratches you can't feel are just marks in the top clear-coat and not too tough to remove. I am talking about with a proper machine polish though, maybe even a very light wet-sanding first with 2500 grit wet and dry. Been doing a lot of wet sanding recently on my red (was pink) 924.I cannot recommend Peels Motorkraft highly enough.
In my experience Matt Peel, and his body shop manager Martin, are both knowledgeable and professional. Add to that passionate about their work, and you have the best results in the area.
If you have any questions, please contact me, I would be more than happy to send you some images of their handy work.

Any more feedback appreciated, quality of colour matching, quality of finish (orange peel/fish eyeing e.t.c), rectification of work if there was a problem e.t.c
I can only speak for JB Autos. I've used them a few times now and the work has been excellent. A fair few other PH users have had work done there in some seriously expensive metal - one of which that I remember being a Ferrari 360 - all of which have been extremely pleased.
I was there last week funnily enough. There was the usual array of Porsches awaiting work plus a lovely Honda NSX being worked on.
Have a search of the South West forum, you'll find a load of recommendations.

Lots of positive reviews for Peels and JB, although seemingly a little more for Peels....which is interesting, as I didn't realise so many would have used Peels (unsure why I came to that conclusion).
Seemingly both do excellent work, any feedback on panel colour match specifically? As most of the above seem to relate to larger work?
Will also try separate searches on PH, to try and pick out the feedback.

Just to bump this - are J B Autos and Peels still the go-tos in the Bristol area? Any other recommendations?
Incidentally whilst it ought not to speak to the quality of the work Peels seems to be a in really sketchy area of Bristol, and is located along without doubt the worst road I've had to drive a supercar down - massive speed bumps, several sections lined with parked cars on both sides where you have to round a corner blind and pray there's nothing coming the other way, etc. Had the misfortune of going there on Saturday only to find they weren't even open (my fault, but how inconvenient is it to only be open on weekdays?), ended up having to stop off at Longwell Green to calm my nerves

It's been a few years since I've been, but last time I was there they were carrying out a lot of work for Porsche who were sending cars their way.Incidentally whilst it ought not to speak to the quality of the work Peels seems to be a in really sketchy area of Bristol, and is located along without doubt the worst road I've had to drive a supercar down - massive speed bumps, several sections lined with parked cars on both sides where you have to round a corner blind and pray there's nothing coming the other way, etc. Had the misfortune of going there on Saturday only to find they weren't even open (my fault, but how inconvenient is it to only be open on weekdays?), ended up having to stop off at Longwell Green to calm my nerves
If it's still owned and run by Jason then I can only assume it's as good now as it's ever been.

Yeah, Jason seems like a guy who really takes pride in his work. I got a sense of that from just a few minutes speaking to him. Been quoted over £1k for a respray (is there such a thing as a blowover anymore? or is that a bad idea anyway?) on my bumper and bonnet (very mild stonechip repair) which whilst oddly reassuring, is quite a bit more than I thought it was going to be. I could just be clueless though. If it's still owned and run by Jason then I can only assume it's as good now as it's ever been.
