Hi guys and girls, need your help. A good friend of mine and the wife needs our help. Towards the end of last year Victoria was diagnosed with MS that has left, a once fit rugby playing lady paralysed from the waste down. We hope that the nerve damage will recover, but we can't be sure.
So my thoughts were that we could help raise some money for the Mardon Centre that is helping her come to terms with what has happened and is helping her with the day to day readjustments. I will post some more info, but this was just a feeler for what we thought. It would only be a small event near spring/summer, what do you think??

My uncle has it too frown
What is the idea here? I can help out on certain matters but don't really have anything to sell and I would like to keep my body hair. I assume it will be car related? Sporting bears raise huge money.

I could get some raffle prizes for you, if you like, like the ones on Sunday or you could do something at a Country Estate, or even a treasure Hunt with map points given and you have to drive around collecting either a stamp or ribbon from certain points with the next clue with an end prize, so everyone gets to have a blast and some fun ending with dinner somewhere so everyone can have a chat and meet people too. You could do this with an entrance fee to take part in it with all money raised going to the Mardon Centre. There is lots you could do smile

Whatever you decide to do, lots of us will be more than happy to help whereever we csn

Thank you also Ben for your kind comment smile

Hello! Just thought it would be a good idea to give you a bit of background info on The Mardon Centre and Victoria....
4 months ago Victoria started to get tingles in her feet and legs and then within the space of a few days lost all feeling in her body from the torso down. Having now been diagnosed with MS, Victoria has started her long road to rehabilitation, waiting on and working on trying to get sensations back and hopefully some movement. Victoria in January got sent to the Mardon Neuro-rehabilitation centre in Exeter. This centre helps young adults with intensive in-patient and community based rehabilitation. It deals with a range of patients including those recovering from strokes, ms, traumatic brain injury and spinal injury. Since getting a place at the centre, Victoria has come on leaps and bounds. She has learnt to use a wheel chair, sit up straight again using her core strength and not her arms for support, receives in house physio, gained a small amount of sensations in her back and the opportunity to learn to live with her condition if she doesn’t manage to get the opportunity to walk again. It is likely that Victoria will remain at the centre for some months to come.
Victoria, for 16 years has been my wonderful friend. Throughout the last few months her inner strength to fight her condition has been amazing and she has not once felt sorry for herself. She is truly inspirational. The centre that has helped her so much is under constant threat of closure and relies on funding. Seeing the affect that the Mardon centre has had on Victoria (and so many other people who walk through the doors) is amazing and so is the help and support they have and are continuing to give Victoria and her husband Peter (both fellow pistonhead-ers!) through this very difficult and life changing period of adjustment. Because of all these factors, (and because I think Victoria is very special) I am organising to hold a local auction fund raiser for the Mardon centre. It is going to be a fun day in the summer with live music and food in the evening and a raffle and auction. I dont know if it will be possible to intergrate the meet with this event or whether it will need to be a separate thing all together (i need to speak to my rugby club where we are holding the event to find out) So there are the bones of the information, dates and locations to be confirmed! Thanks! Alex. smile

I'm on board.

Are you thinking we could do something car based, like rides for the residents or the original pink-pig-run or are you just after us to attend the day and add to the event your already planning ?

whichever is fine

We want this to be a nice small event that all can enjoy and have a strong car theme. Both Victoria and Peter are both petrol heads, of the Lotus variety, we were thinking of a group gathering, with a run up to the event. Then teas, coffee, bacon butties and some raffle prizes and after, another run for those that want too. It would be great just to get some like minded people together, have a laugh, look and talk cars and raise some money. I'm not looking to do anything on the epic scale of Carring With Cars, (shame they've had to cancell) but just go with the flow, don't want it too regimented. Any ideas, help greatly recived. First thing we must do is get dates, this will be posted soon. Again thanks for your show of support smile

We now have a date, either Sat 6th or Sun 7th July. There will be a barbeque, teas, coffee's and an open bar for those that would like something a little stronger!!! We will charge an entrance fee for those who would like to show and this can be £2 or what ever you feel like giving (hoping for an average of £5) we will then charge people to have a look around the cars, again on a donation basis.
Would the collective prefer the Saturday or Sunday, I would go with the Sunday myself, what do you think and what events does this clash with???!!!

Damn, GTI International weekend frown This is not good news. Already booked and paid for a full weekend up there, hotel too. This probably only affects me though, as I drive a VAG car - want to give it death down Shakey's 1/4 mile.
