Anyone recommend a good restorer out west?
Discussion
Hi everyone.
The time has come for me to bite the bullet and get the bodywork on my MX5 properly sorted. I have a horrible feeling that it’ll be like Scroff’s MR2 once all the crap is cut away, but it’s not a car I’m going to sell anytime soon, and another bodge now will just mean more outlay in the future.
Can anyone recommend someone in the SW who they would trust to do the work on their P&J? They’ve got to be straight enough that I can get them to do an honest appraisal of what it’ll need, talk it through with me prioritising the work (taking into account how much it’s going to cost), and then get on and do it properly.... not just bang on a new outer sill and wave me off into the sunset with my money safely in their back pocket.
A pragmatic approach would be good too – I’m not worried about the small dink in the bonnet, for example. The car’s used every day, it gets properly covered in mud (and worse) and it’s only a matter of time until there’ll be another scratch for me to touch up from getting too close to a Cornish hedge. As long as it’s solid (and will stay solid) where it counts, I’m happy.
I’ve seen recommendations for The MX5 Restorer and Paul Baker Custom Metalwork and they look perfect, apart from their location. I’m just outside Penzance, so the idea of trekking across to near Brighton (for the MX5 Restorer), coming home on the train, and then reversing the journey to collect the car a few weeks later is putting me off! The nearer to home the better.
Thanks very much for your help.
Steve

Try getragdogleg, not sure if it's the work he usually does but if his own cars are anything to go by, he's not bad!
