Meet / Drive - Sat 2nd - Cheddar Gorge ??? Forecast Sunshine
Discussion
I've not been there for almost two weeks but last time I was there the road was completely closed, with water streaming down it (literally covering the entire surface, and a few inches deep in places) and there was debris (rocks/gravel etc) everywhere, some lumps were rather large.
On top of that they were clearing unsafe rocks off the sides (very loud and rather messy) and there was a team of highly skilled and really cool chainsaw contractors dropping trees high up, with some logs/rocks making it all the way to the bottom.
If the road closed signs are up I wouldn't drive it in anything you actually care about (in fact I wouldn't drive it at all as they were stopping people and I think fining them at one point)

Cheddar Gorge still closed...but you can sneak round the barriers if you want to.
If you're prepared to put up with the tuts and shaking heads of all the cyclists that is
Best to give Cheddar Gorge a miss then - Anyone know any other scenic meeting place. I will have a think. If you're prepared to put up with the tuts and shaking heads of all the cyclists that is

Honestly Cheddar is no fun at all to drive at the moment.
Chew Valley lake has no parking charges over winter, is very scenic and in a decent location that you can shoot off across the mendips etc fairly easily.
That's what I was thinking, the layby between West Harptree and Chew Stoke, might be a little quieter than the one on the other side.Chew Valley lake has no parking charges over winter, is very scenic and in a decent location that you can shoot off across the mendips etc fairly easily.
Is anyone heading up to the Sunday meet weather dependent?

Chew Valley Lake looks a good location. Do you have a postcode/map/road name etc for the layby you are referring to?Is anyone heading up to the Sunday meet weather dependent?

Couldn't make today due to other commitments but perhaps a meet should be organised there with a bit more warning and see if we can get a decent number together?
(Ps. before April 1st as the parking charges kick in again)
