Ok folks I am struggling with this, so im asking for some input

I have visited a couple of places already, so at present we have 2 choices

OPTION 1 - Turtley Corn Mill Avonwick - Gastropub, recommended by me, but.......£25 a head for Christmas meal, full 3 courses, coffee etc, we will be eating for a good couple of hours !

OPTION 2 - What can you suggest ?

It has to have an accessible location from Dartmoor, a big car park, handle 20 people turning up for a booking and be budget friendly for the group but good quality. Please ring/check the venue first to ensure that they can take the booking and what food is on offer (e.g. Christmas menu or regular menu)
Most places I am finding are only doing Christmas meals - not normal menu, and they all want £22-£30 a head.

So please reply to the thread and either - option 1 is good OR recommend somewhere else

Thanks guys and girls

Possible OPTION 2 = Bearslake Inn (again) - I have checked and they can do either a main meal (roast) or a full 3 course, so the flexibility is good. Roast is 9.99 as an example.
What do you think ?

never heard of that place before but looks good. especially the nearby race track and speedway hehe
just a quick few suggestions
fingle bridge inn
plus:- on the moors lots of parking, nice location, good reviews.
negative:- bit of a pain to get to, possibly underwater
castle inn at lydford
plus:- car park opposite, on the moors, well priced
negative:-the road into lydford had surface dressing put down not long ago, if many attend the venue isnt large and the car park may be crowded.
two bridges hotel
plus:- on the moors at a good half way location, massive parking, good reviews, well priced, big enough venue to accomadate a lot of phers
negative:- i have never been there to pass judgement, no nearby petrol stations, if it carries on raining the car park may be a little damp.
gidleigh park
plus:- best place to eat in the south west.
negative:- bring the credit card.
the jack in the green inn
plus:- heard lots of good things, big car park, award winning restaurant, averagely priced, never heard a bad word said about it.
negative:- its location is a little way away from the moors and could prove inconvenient.

I'm afraid I know nothing of Devon pub-wise, but want to put in a vote for the cheaper end with normal pub food on offer.

Giles bearing in mind the date. I would tend to pick option one and start asking for confirmations, or it could end up at Mc Duffers in Minehead. (Come to think of it, they were nice chips) wink

gidleigh park
plus:- best place to eat in the south west.
negative:- bring the credit card.
BEEN HERE - Love it, too expensive at £100 a head

negative:- its location is a little way away from the moors and could prove inconvenient.
BEEN HERE - Love it too, but cost me £75 a head

So this is where we are so far - you lot are hopeless !!!

OPTION 1 = £25 a head 3 course Christmas meal - http://www.turtleycornmill.com/

OPTION 2 = £10 roast lunch (add to it as you wish) - http://www.bearslakeinn.com/

I have spoken to both venues and booked both - So any more input before I make a decision ?

Bearslake for me, simply due to being pretty much on Dartmoor. Also, I'm a tightwad diesel driving accountant, so the fact its 40% odd of the price, also sways it. wink

Haven't added my name to the list due to being a girl and keeping an eye on the amount of salt on the road, my car is not salt friendly!! As far as a route, I'll get that sorted, if I girly out, I'll pass the route onto Gile's.

Liberal use of a jet wash wont hurt.
That said my Evo lived on the south wales coast for the first 6 years of its life and still looks good underneath, so im sure it can survive a couple of Devon winters......I cant wait till the snow comes and I can do 4wd drifts in empty car parks...............with my baseball cap on of course

Yeah blue true dat hehe
I hope the snow doesn't arrive at all for obvious reason. They didn't do much snow testing in oz when making the car smile
