I've a few hours to kill tomorrow morning in Bristol. I could do with doing some Xmas shopping but would prefer to avoid the chain stores etc.

Is there an area within the city that has more interesting independent shops anywhere?

Cheers!

Park Street has a lot of nice shops, as does Clifton, but they're a bit gentrified now and quite expensive. If you want really independent shopping, you need Stokes Croft. That's where the locals firebombed a Tesco for being a chain store; Plenty of dogs on string and jugglers to be seen.

You've also got st Nick's market which is an easy walk from Cabot Circus, although it very much depends on the sort of thing you're looking for I guess. As mentioned, Stokes Croft is about as indie as it gets in Bristol.

If you want posh boutiques, go to Clifton Village (and make sure you have a well stocked wallet!)

If you want a proper indoor shopping centre, go to Cabot Circus. If you want the slightly more budget version of this, next door to Cabot is broadmeads and the galleries which is the lower-end shopping centre shops.

If you want to visit some indie/student-y/hipster high street shops head across from Cabot into Stokes Croft
If you want to pursue this further and dont mind being being stabbed and/or mugged, carry on into St Pauls (dont do this!)

Seeing as I live next door to Cabot I'd normally come and say hi but typically I have a lab tomorrow morning frown

Thanks for the input everyone. In the end I only had 2 hours so just had a quick wander around, the Xmas market was on too so I got some stuff for the Mrs there.

Looks like my brother will be moving to Bristol so I'll get more of a chance next time!
