Start your own car club
Discussion
I started a little club in my village just over a year ago and really enjoy the stuff we do together. Most months it is just going to the pub, but last night we took a drive out. As you can see from the photo, it is pretty inclusive from Austins through to Porsches (The photo shows only half of our members) but that is how I like it!
Anyone local to Malmesbury / Wootton Bassett is welcome to join us.

Phil - how did you start the club off and gather momentum?
Interesting idea. I've often thought of how to go about creating something similar, as i have access to several nice cars via a business of mine. Maybe if a few more in Wiltshire did so, we could then all get together as one large gathering!

I was lucky in starting the club as my wife was running the parish magazine at the time so I just got her to save me a 1/3 of a page so I could put an ad in. I had a few friends in the village with an interest in cars that I dragged along, so we had about 8 for the first meeting, since then we have lost a few and gained a few, but there are usually 6-8 for each meeting.
I send out a reminder email most months and we meet at the Rose and Crown in Lea although most of us are around Brinkworth, Dauntsey and the Somerfords. At last count we had 7 porsches (a couple of our members have multiples), 3 midgets, 4 x 1930's Austins, an MX5, a Cobra, a Karmann Ghia, a campervan, a Corvette, Westfield and a couple of prewar Morris's. I think it is nice to have a mix of classic, modern, sports and kit cars, we really are just a bunch of petrol heads and the 1937 Austin 7 gets as much interest as the new Porsche 991 in the club.

Hi, Would be interested in being on the email list if poss' - jaydub@talk21.com . We're just outside Lyneham and have done a few runs with the Royal Wootton Bassett Classic Car Club, and are involved with the hot rod and Retro Rides crowds in Swindon. Be nice to have some more options. Cheers, John.
