Yesterdays feckin nightmare of a journey from Weston to Sidmouth (3.5 hours instead of the usual 45 minutes - 1hr)-

I just could not believe how st the traffic was - started off on the M5 then got off at Burnham folowing the A38 but checking the M5 at each junction

Eventually met a highways agency lady in Sainsburys car park at Taunton who said there were no discernable accidents, it was just down to sheer volume of traffic

Ended up getting on the A303 at Ilminster (after being stuck behind some tt doing 35MPH up the hill from Henlade and failing to overtake the Morrison's lorry limited to 40 MPH, leaving me stuck behind the fecking lorry all the way to the Ilminster roundabout)

We left home at 3.30 PM and I sure as hell did NOT expect to see that lot!

I didnt suffer quite that bad but i know where your coming from.

The girlfriend said it took her nearly 2 hours to get home on friday (J12 to J16) just due to traffic volume.

I went out in Cheltenham on friday night and coming back saturday morning (J11 to J16) i saw the matrix signs saying there were long delays between J13 & J22! i got off and took the A38 until i saw a queue of traffic then went through Thornbury and out to Aust then back up the M48, took atound 1:30 for a 45 minute trip normally.

The odd thing is, i never saw any traffic on the M5 at any point? it made me wonder if the traffic wombles were just putting info on the matrix signs to spread the traffic out a bit?

It was almost solid traffic as far North as J12 (Gloucester) as well.

^^^^ That's one loooong traffic jam if it went as far South as Taunton

We used to live in Taunton and bitter experience taught us that we didn't go anywhere near the M5 in either direction on a Saturday anywhere close to a school/bank holiday. Change over day at the holiday camps etc are a nightmare and I can only shudder at the thought of the time wasted queueing to get in/out of places like Brean.

The laugh of yesterday was that some muppets thought they would save some time by going via Bristol city centre.... rolleyes

Must have depended exactly where on the M5.

I was deputed to collect daughter from Uni and yesterday we managed the return leg, NottmUni -Bath, in 2hrs 5m; empty roads, obviously...

Normally I'd agree with you, but when you're leaving home at 330pm you'd expect most people to be where they want to be already?

I have a 60 mile each way commute and dread it when I'm on a day shift in the Friday before a Bank Holiday weekend as it's always rammed then. I'm a little surprised it was that bad at that time on the Saturday though. I would suspect tomorrow will be pretty bad northbound but as has been said, it might be offset by half-term. Friday and Saturday northbound will be rammed though.

It only took me 2 hours to travel 800 miles on Saturday! You must have been doing something very wrong!!!
