Folks

Delving into the memory banks (not good at my age hehe ) I recall a thread on a business called Vincent Knight in Swindon. Doing a search it appears that the thread has been deleted scratchchin

Is this the correct business I am thinking of regarding sale or return? Has anyone dealt with these? Especially on a Sale or return basis?

Feel free to PM me through PH if you feel anything you say might contravene 'name and shame' rules

Cheers

Graham

you could ask them smile

I dropped in a while back to look at a 996T they had for sale. Nice guys, just threw me the keys and said bring it back later.
Looks a decent outfit with some very nice metal.
Looks like they offer an "agency sale" which might be what you want.
They are next door to ECP behind Dick Lovetts if that helps.

They're just down the road from me.
They seem a professional outfit, but I'm not sure how big a turn over of cars they have and if you exclude the Lambo and 911, most of the cars they have are pretty run of the mill
I assume it's your Aston you are selling ? As a consideration, if I was buying something specialist like your car, then I'd be looking at a specialist that at least has a few other of the same marque for sale or a demonstrable history in selling that type of car.
I guess you're assuming they'll sell it for significantly more than you could trade it in for ?

'Run of the mill'?

That's not what I saw down there a few months ago.

I popped in to check a Gallardo they had for sale. Next to it was a GT40, couple of Astons, Bentley, and all the usual Porsche stuff.

I'd go as far to say the 'least' interesting car was a TVR. It's hardly full of Mondeos and Golfs!

I know they've been around for at least a while, and offered to put my Maser on SOR last year, when I was ready to sell it.

Seem like very decent chaps, friendly, know their stuff.

But I don't know anybody that's actually USED them for SOR, so can't help on that score, sorry.

That would scare me if I was leaving my car with them on a "sale or return" basis.

Their current range has Audi, BMW and Land Rover as the biggest stock - run of the mill to me.
Only 1 Lambo and that's about it frown

The cars on their site are much more normal than when I went just before xmas.
The 996 was one of their cheaper cars at 26K.
Lots of Bentley GTs, Diablos, Sagaris, 997 gt3rs. Alot less of that now. Maybe they got a good deal on a batch?

Maybe they've traded more interesting stuff historically, but their current inventory (with the exception of the Lambo and 911) is all very 'run of the mill'

I too would be worried if I was selling a an exotic car like the OP's Aston and they were just throwing the keys at potential customers to take for a spin.
Worse case is that 4months later the car's not sold, yet its accumulated 5k miles of being ragged by 20 different people ?
I'm not saying that's what happens, but if as mentioned earlier in this thread, they're just throwing the keys out, then it's a distinct possibility, no ?

That would be enough to put me off, for sure.

Anything 'exotic' (especially Italian) can react badly to hard mileage. You can destroy a Lambo clutch in 1000 miles, easily, by pushing it hard, which is a £4k repair bill.

If I were to go for it, I would certainly be stipulating accompanied test-drives only in the contract and NO RACING.

Unless of course the prospective buyer wants to chip in for the wear and tear, which on a Lambo is about £5 per mile. smile

Perhaps I'd better add a few more details.
I had called and spoken to them and arranged a time to visit.
I did leave my car there and (I think) my keys
It was their car as I was told they had px it against something more expensive
So ok not quite given the keys from turning up on spec.
They didn't however want to come with me but I have had that elsewhere in the past too.

Wouldn't want to discourage anyone from a single sentence smile

I wonder why they wouldn't want to accompany you. If nothing else, then it's a great chance to gauge chance of sale and push you on various options..
You don't smell / look like a serial killer / dress like Freddy Mercury do you ??? haha

Sorry, I'll get my coat smile

FWIW though, despite all that's been said here, I'm going to pop along and have a look at that 997 C2S Cab they have their as I've always fancied one of them..

How I dress at home is entirely up to me!
But no, I don't think I come across particularly oddly.

I was offering my 944 in px which they seemed happy to consider but I'm afraid the interior was just to much for me! Spotless car mind and it has sold it seems.

I went in today to see about the 997 Cab they have listed
It's smaller than it looks from the site, but well presented and the guys there were professional
There was certainly no throwing the keys at me, and as I hadn't made an appointment and was just passing by with my 5yr old in tow, they suggested I arrange a time to come back for a proper look and a drive
They said they do a lot of sale or return, but I'm not 100% sure I'd put an Aston through them
997 looked good thoUgh and it's a nice price, so I might go back and have a decent look at that soon

Hi all, thanks for all the good comments it’s nice to be respected for trying to do business the right way. We have very much evolved over the past 12 months and now sell anything that is slightly different or more interesting than your run of the mill fleet type cars.

We are still willing to sell cars on a sale or return basis and take this very seriously. We draft a SOR contract with our clients and will only allow unaccompanied test drives if the owner of the car agrees to it. In our opinion unaccompanied test drives allows most sensible and serious customers the opportunity to drive the car without feeling the usual sales pressure of a salesman sat next to them. Clearly if a customer would rather we went with them then we would. One thing is for certain a test drive will only take place after careful consideration etc we do not allow test drives for fun!!!

I would welcome anyone to come and meet us and see our premises. We accept that we are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but I can promise that our environment is much more relaxed and welcoming than your typical car sales environment.

We look forward to meeting and welcoming all customer past, present and future.
