Southbound M5 between Taunton and Bridgwater, 2 lanes out due to accident and fuel spillage. No surprise there then, with it being the mad get away for school easter hols! It always happens.

Oh well, it's sunny, I have the 'other' car with me at work. Looks like I'll be taking the 'long' way home! biggrin

Fuel spillage, eh?

No wonder there's a queue

laugh Yes, that's what I though. People stopping, getting out of their cars and scooping/mopping it up and dribbling it into their tanks.

Even worse if you're heading from London down the M4 to the M5 interchange, you'll find a 6 car smash just after J18 and then when you clear that, you'll hit the roadworks from 19-20, then you can join the queue to get to Cornwall.

When I came back (around 1345) I was heading Southbound and there had been a large 4-5 car smash between WSM (J21) and Clevedon (J20) Northbound on the M5

Had obviously just happened and there were no blues on scene and I only saw them just as I was getting off at WSM

Didnt look tooooo (apologies if anyone has been hurt badly!) serious as it happened by a part where there was no central barrier and it looked like the cars involved had just rear ended and then sort of glided into the grass ditch area of the central res?

All I could see was one person being looked after by another and minor(ish) shunt damage

Going by at reasonable speed though, so could have been more serious than it looked?

Just back from Bristol Airport. Left at 16:00. Parked on the M5 for an hour due to this wonderful fuel spillage, turned off at Bridgewater for a leisurely drive out on the A39, then down the B3190, what a cracking road that is. Back on at J27 and just got home to Saltash. Long old day but worth the detour to find another great deserted B road.

I passed at a similar time, heading South to Jcn.27. The incident didn't look too bad, although a few cars had some unplanned modifications, and thankfully the resulting southbound rubber-neckers didn't cause too much delay.
I returned north, leaving at about 4pm, so witnessed the long southbound delays. I reckon the queue was about 6 miles - traffic reports quoted 10 miles...
Various other 'incidents' on the M5 and M4 added 30 minutes to my journey, but I'm aware that it could have been a lot worse.
At least the volume of traffic kept my speed down and prompted an average 29mpg when I filled up with some of the rare and expensive stuff at my local garage....;)

I got stuck in this, just got onto the M5 j23 making good progress satnav saying home by 17:45 for the first time for god knows how long, then the jam, came off at j24 and headed towards Burrow bridge then Taunton. When I heard it was a fuel spillage I wondered if it was a Gerry can that had got thrown from a car as a result of the accident wobble No refuelling problems for me so far!! Will be looking for some super tomorrow for the Nob smile
