Well the time has finally come. My beloved Focus ST will as of tomorrow no longer be mine to love/enjoy. I bought her brand new in September 2008 from Ford in Swindon. Needless to say after spending alot of time on the FocusSTOC forums the 'ASBO' didnt stay standard for long and over the next 12 months was treated to an induction kit, lowering springs, re-map, intercooler and exhaust. From my point of view the results were phenomenal. The last time she was put on a rolling road she delivered 294 bhp and 350 lb/ft torque. (Personally i think thats pretty damn impressive for a hatchback. lol)

Over the course of ownership she hasn't really been wanting of anything. Always getting serviced regularly and always run on V-Power or BP Ultimate. Apart from a minor ESP glitch recently which has been solved i've never once had a problem with her. 3 and a half years of absolute reliability.

As for the driving fun....well what can i say. The noise that 5 cylinder turbo'd lump makes is awesome. I would never ever get bored of that noise, or the acceleration. On more than one occasion it would surprise a more powerful car, or even munch other cars that 'thought' they were powerful.

I would recommend the Focus ST to anyone. Well equipped, comfortable and when they mood takes you pretty bloody fast too. (Especially if you've tuned it) Not sure what else to say really, other than despite my excitement for my new car (i'll get to that in a bit) I will be very sad when i finally part ways with the ST. I hope that whoever ends up owning WU58TGF enjoys her as much as i do/did and continues to look after her in the same manor i have.

Right then onto my new car. What could i possibly replace a car that I loved so much with you ask? Well frankly nothing is really gonna replace the ST, however I will soon be commuting to work and needed a car that was more economical. However I didn't want to get a dull Golf Diesel or Audi A3 etc (sorry to anyone who owns one of those) They are just cars that weren't for me. So after looking around and deciding that i wanted something that was still gonna be fairly fast but get me the economy I needed I settled on...... the BMW 123d M Sport Coupe.

Reasons; well looking around at other cars in that class it was by far and away the fastest, whilst still maintaining over 50 mpg on the combined cycle and only being £135 per year to tax. Also great to look at (in my opinion at least, lol) and the one i got is very well equipped. So i pick it up from Cobham BMW tomorrow afternoon. But here are a few pictures of my new baby.

All comments welcome, i'm sure the ones from my friends will be more sarcastic than most. lol. Anyway thanks for allowing me to bore you for 5 minutes with this thread. See you at the next meet. :-)

I saw this ST at Cheddar and was very impressed by it. Remember me? I took you out in my Focus (which I still have, Mountuned since then).

123D Coupe? scratchchin

My father has just sold a 123D Coupe and it was a very, very impressive car.

His was an SE auto and as such was a superb mile eater which is what he wanted. But it was a quick car (As our occasional convoy drives proved) and also felt very well made if I got into it after the Focus.

Plus fuel economy about 2 x the ST will be nice!

The only negative I could think of is it seemed to be very prone to losing paint to stone chips, but then he did a lot of motorway work in it.

Yeah I do remember buddy. Lovely RS. I remember how more planted it felt than my ST even from the passenger side. I bet with the Mountune kit its epically quick now??

Yeah i know what you mean about the quality, it just feels very well put together. Excited to get it now. :-)

RS is starting to get a bit creaky trim-wise (yes, it's quick laugh), then I stepped in the BMW and it was silent.

Think I may be going german next time!

Lol, yeah bless Ford....for all the advances they have made in terms of quality its still not quite German yet. lol. Can't beat the noise of that 5 cylinder though. :-)

Good write up fella, have always admired your car when I've seen it.

Love the shape of the 1 series coupe, hadn't seen on in the blue before now and actually uttered a wow!

What plans do you have for it when you've got past the "I'm not going to do anything to it" stage? wink

Excellent choice there.

I would of got the 123d myself if i wasnt doing so many miles. Other owners seem to suggest you can only expect around 45mpg from them unfortunately but i did test drive one and it was a great drive, loads of power.

I settled for the 118d, £30 year tax and i average 55-60mpg week on week.
